About Northeastern:

Founded in 1898, Northeastern is a global research university and the recognized leader in experience-driven lifelong learning. Our world-renowned experiential approach empowers our students, faculty, alumni, and partners to create impact far beyond the confines of discipline, degree, and campus.

Our locations—in Boston; Charlotte, North Carolina; London; Portland, Maine; San Francisco; Seattle; Silicon Valley; Toronto; Vancouver; and the Massachusetts communities of Burlington and Nahant—are nodes in our growing global university system. Through this network, we expand opportunities for flexible, student-centered learning and collaborative, solutions-focused research.

Northeastern's comprehensive array of undergraduate and graduate programs— in a variety of on-campus and online formats—lead to degrees through the doctorate in nine colleges and schools. Among these, we offer more than 195 multi-discipline majors and degrees designed to prepare students for purposeful lives and careers.

About the Opportunity:

The Center for Intercultural Engagement (CIE) at Northeastern University strives to create a community that is inclusive of all populations on campus. With a focus on exploring the connections within, between and across identity groups, the Center maintains a transformative and supportive environment by fostering a community that respects and values the perspective, contribution and experience of everyone at Northeastern. To lead this effort, the CIE seeks a Director with proven effectiveness and expertise in identity-based programming who lead the evolution of this Center. Reporting to the Assistant Dean in the Division of Student Affairs, the Director is charged with the continued growth of the Center and will be responsible for articulating a strategic vision, identifying key priorities and partnerships that result in increased cultural competence for all of our students in addition to maintaining a space to explore the multitude of identities that make up our community. The Director will possess a multi-faceted approach to identity-based programming and will work in tandem with student leaders on the creation of a robust programming calendar that offers our community with opportunities to engage in dialogues around difference, receive trainings that are vital to creating constructive change and attend identity-based socials that bring together students with intersecting identities, among others. To aid in the delivery of these critical programs and services, the Director will be responsible for overseeing all administrative aspects of the Center including but not limited to: fiscal oversight; supervision of full time staff and the student fellows; and spearheading a creative marketing/social media plan that is designed to reach students who capitalize on global experiences.

Other Duties | Serve on university and department-wide committees. | Provide evening and weekend support as needed and required for success. | Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean or Vice President.

Programming and Outreach | Develop vision for programs and services and execute them with clear learning outcomes and assessment plans. Attend events as needed. | Identify a vision for marketing and brand management and execute accordingly. | Cultivate partnerships across the university with a wide array of colleagues to strengthen the reach and effectiveness of CIE. | Articulate and execute an approach to improve students' ability to engage across difference. | Develop comprehensive assessment plan to track student skill mastery. | Meet frequently with students to serve as a support structure and advocate for them.

Qualifications:

The Director must have 6-8 years of professional experience in higher education, preferably in areas closely related to identity exploration, inclusion or related discipline. Extensive knowledge of social justice, programming, student activism and diversity issues is a must with a proven record of change management in this area.
