Position Summary:
The Grants Accountant reports to the Accounting Manager and will be responsible for assisting University grants officers, faculty members and other University officials with all aspects of post-award grant administration. They are responsible for the timely and accurate reporting of the University's grant operations on a monthly, quarterly, annual and ad-hoc basis. They will coordinate the audit procedures related to a variety of accounting processes and programs, taking the lead in working with auditors on the research and development portion of the single audit. This position also supports the accounting office in a limited capacity.

JOB DUTIES
- Supports University grants officers in the pre-award,
post-award, budget revision and extension processes. Assists in
complying with all governmental, donor and university rules,
regulations, policies and agreements related to grants.
- Reviews all grant funded programs to determine reporting
requirements and restrictions, establishes priority status,
summarizes contract information, determines allowable charges and
develops protocol for monitoring.
- Coordinates the setup process for new grants with the
accounting department and grant managers.
- Monitors grant expenditures, ensuring each are within the
budget and are processed correctly. Reviews all expenditures on
grant funds for reasonableness and consistency with funding
agencies, federal regulations and university policies. Performs
retroactive cost transfers as needed.
- Assists in monitoring report deadlines and ensuring interim and
final reports are submitted in a timely manner. Ensures that
post-award budget and accounting issues are promptly and accurately
resolved.
- Provides post-award information and periodic expenditure
reports to University officials as requested.
- Processes grant reimbursement requests and invoices as required
by sponsoring agency or prime award institution.
- Coordinates preparation of work papers for the research and
development portion of the annual single audit.
- Collects Financial Conflict of Interest forms and monitors
faculty distribution of effort to assure compliance with federal
and university regulations and other sponsor
requirements.
- Monitors the changing regulatory environment and ensures that
University policies and procedures are adequate to meet new federal
requirements.
- Assists with the University's year end close for all grant
accounts.
- Prepares & collects financial closeout forms from sub-award
institutions when appropriate.
- Takes responsibility for maintaining strong internal controls
in all areas of responsibility and considers opportunities to
strengthen controls throughout the University's accounting
functions.
- Cross-trains to provide back up support to other Accounting
staff as needed.
- Performs other tasks and/or assumes other duties as
assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in accounting, business, or a related
field.
- Two years of increasingly responsible experience in financial
accounting and/or grant administration.
- Demonstrated ability to balance daily and periodic tasks with
projects, many of which have firm deadlines.
- Highly detail orientated, accurate, flexible, and possess the
capacity to work effectively both independently and as a member of
a team.
- Ability to deal sensitively with confidential material with a
high degree of professionalism.
- Must be a team player but have the ability to work
independently, displaying initiative and a strong work
ethic.
- Able to utilize computer technology to access data, maintain
records, generate reports and perform data analysis. Proficiency in
Microsoft Excel a must.
- Effective oral and written communications skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three years or more of responsible accounting
experience.
- Prior experience with grant accounting, includes training in,
and/or experience with government regulations related to grants and
contracts.
- CRA or equivalent financial grant administration
certification.
- Experience with Ellucian Colleague software.
Typical Work Schedule
Monday - Friday 8am to 5pm

Typical work is performed indoors in a normal office environment.
