Basic Function:
Background: The Graduate School of Education at California Lutheran University (Cal Lutheran) invites applicants for a Lecturer or tenure track Assistant Professor of Counselor Education, depending upon qualifications, beginning in fall of 2022. Cal Lutheran has recently become a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) and we are looking for candidates with a demonstrated commitment to and success working in diverse, multicultural and multi-racial communities. The Department of Counselor Education prepares ethical, empathic, and socially responsible counselors and leaders to be advocates for access, equity, and inclusion in educational institutions through a critically reflective curriculum rooted in social change and community engagement.The department offers master's degrees in both Counseling and College Student Personnel (higher education and student affairs counseling) and Counseling and Pupil Personnel Services (K-12 school counseling). Common responsibilities for the position include teaching in the M.S. programs/credential courses, master's student advisement, and service to the university and broader community. Representative Duties:
Responsibilities for Lecturer· Carry a 32-unit course load per academic year, primarily teaching courses in the Counseling and Pupil Personnel Services program (K-12 school counseling).· Exhibit a commitment to cultural proficiency and an understanding of the diverse academic, social, economic, cultural, and ethnic background of university students· Actively advise and mentor master’s students from diverse cultures and backgrounds· Collaborate with department faculty, university administrators, and K-12 school partners to maintain and strengthen the Counseling and Pupil Personnel Services program and its community engagement· Participate in service to the department, school, university, and P-22 (i.e., preschool through higher education) community· Demonstrate commitment to professional excellence and continuous growth within the subject, field or discipline Responsibilities for Assistant Professor (tenure-track)· Carry a 24-unit course load per academic year, primarily teaching courses in the Counseling and Pupil Personnel Services program (K-12 school counseling).· Exhibit a commitment to cultural proficiency and an understanding of the diverse academic, social, economic, cultural, and ethnic background of university students· Actively advise and mentor master’s students from diverse cultures and backgrounds· Develop and maintain an active record of scholarship · Engage in scholarly activities leading to grants, presentations, and/or publications · Collaborate with department faculty, university administrators, and K-12 school partners to maintain and strengthen the Counseling and Pupil Personnel Services program and its community engagement· Participate in service to the department, school, university, and P-22 (i.e., preschool through higher education) community· Demonstrate commitment to professional excellence and continuous growth within the subject, field or discipline

Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications for Lecturer

· Possession of a master’s degree in School Counseling and a California Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) in school counseling credential (or out-of-state equivalent) with at least two years of experience as a professional school counselor in an ethnically and linguistically diverse public K-12 school setting· Experience teaching at the graduate level, preferably in the area of K-12 school counseling· Demonstrated commitment to diversity and equity. · Possession of an appropriate earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in school counseling, educational psychology, educational leadership, or a related field· Possession of a California Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) in school counseling credential (or out-of-state equivalent) with at least two years of experience as a professional school counselor in an ethnically and linguistically diverse public K-12 school setting· Experience teaching at the graduate level, preferably in the area of K-12 school counseling· Evidence of research and scholarship in K-12 school counseling· Demonstrated commitment to diversity and equity. Preferred Qualifications:
· 5+ years as a professional school counselor in K-12 school settings, preferably in public and/or public charter schools· Knowledge of and experience with local, state and national educational issues and trends across the P-22 pipeline · Experience teaching and/or expertise in at least two of the following areas: K-12 school law, career development theory, counseling theories and approaches, group/individual counseling, and school counseling services aligned with the ASCA National Model. · Expertise in qualitative and/or quantitative research methodology and interest in teaching research and assessment courses · A record of collaboration and leadership with school districts and community partners, resulting in continuing program improvement for school counseling candidates· Engagement in professional associations, such as the California Association of School Counselors or American School Counselor Association · Potential interest in leadership roles and service opportunities within the department and University· Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
