Position Summary:

The Department of Biostatistics and Medical Informatics (BMI) in the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) engages in dynamic research, education, and service in the broad area of data sciences and in support of advancing human health. The Biomedical Computing Group (BCG) is a vital part of the department. BCG builds and manages the computing infrastructure required to support the diverse research computing needs of BMI faculty and research staff, as well as providing department-wide desktop support.
This position will serve within BMI to investigate, develop, and maintain resources for the department's research computing environment, with a focus on secure high-throughput research computing, large data storage, with occasional work to advance and support the department's clinical trials and educational efforts.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Associate's degree or higher.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

*At least 5 years of experience working with Linux in a research or computation-heavy environment.
*Knowledge of Unix scripting languages (Shell, Perl, Python)
*Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills, as well as excellent attention to detail.
*Experience maintaining storage solutions for handling multi-terabyte data sets.
*Knowledge of security best practices.
*Familiarity with HIPAA compliance a plus.
*Familiarity with Linux configuration management tools (e.g., SaltStack, Puppet, etc.) a plus.
*Familiarity with any of ZFS, HTCondor, GPUs, virtualization environments, or Docker a plus.
