Position Summary:

The Waisman Center is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about human development, developmental disabilities, and neurodegenerative diseases throughout the lifespan. One of 15 centers of its kind in the United States, the Waisman Center encompasses laboratories for biomedical and behavioral research, a brain imaging center, and a clinical bio-manufacturing facility for the production of pharmaceuticals for early stage human clinical trials. In addition to its research efforts, the Center provides an array of services to people with developmental disabilities, offers numerous educational and outreach programs to young children and their families, and trains scientists and clinicians who will serve our nation in the future.

The Research Specialist will support research for the University of Wisconsin Longitudinal Imaging and Neurogenetics in Kids (UW LINK) Study (Co-PIs Brittany Travers and James Li). This 5-year project is dedicated to examining how children (ages 4-7) with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) develop (or do not develop) ADHD over time. All participants will be invited into the laboratory to have their saliva collected for DNA analysis and to complete various tasks including neuropsychological tests, clinical interviews, and other lab-based tasks (such as sensorimotor). Additionally, participants will complete a brain imaging scan.

This position will be responsible for managing and processing data, scheduling study assessments, and serving as a liaison between the co-PIs, university staff, research assistants, and the broader community, as well as performing administrative lab management responsibilities.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

A Bachelor's Degree is required. A degree in Psychology, Statistics/Biostatistics, Biology, Neurobiology, Neuroscience, or a related field is preferred.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Well-qualified applicants will have the following preferred experience and knowledge:
- One to three years of experience in a human subjects' research environment and knowledge of human subjects' research principles and regulations.
- Experience supervising/managing a small team.
- Experience with National Institutes of Health (NIH) and/or National Database for Autism Research (NDAR).
- Experience with statistical computing software, such as SPSS or SAS, and survey software, such as Qualtrics.
- Experience working with children (preferably elementary school-aged) with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their parents.
- Experience with collecting brain imaging data in children/adolescents.
- Experience writing research reports in APA (American Psychological Association) style.

Additional Information:

This Position Vacancy Listing represents two separate and distinct appointments within the Waisman Center. The hired candidate will have two 50% appointments, each with a unique supervisor, in the Motor Brain and Development Laboratory (PI: Brittany Travers) and the Social and Behavioral Development Laboratory (PI: James Li).

This position will require occasional evening and weekend work.

A Criminal Background Check will be performed.

Must complete HIPAA training and receive certification within the first 5 days of employment and annually thereafter within 5 days of notification.

Reporting requirements must be completed in a timely manner, including but not limited to effort reporting and outside activities reporting.
