The University of Washington - Bothell has an outstanding opportunity for a Space Planner.

The Space Planner will report to the Director of Physical Planning & Space Management and will perform complex statistical, spatial and graphic data analysis and provide a high level of coordination and technical services for planning and development associated with renovations and new construction. Within the scope of position duties, this position will be responsible for effective and efficient space planning for use in project planning and implementation to ensure the success of campus programs and projects, and will consult, gather, analyze and report data for programming and utilization to support space allocation decisions; maintain the space information inventory system and drawing records; comply with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Space Planning:

• Collect, update, and maintain the complex computerized asset management system and database (Space Manager) and Auto CAD vault records to facilitate and expedite the usability, accuracy, integrity and availability of data for campus planning and space utilization purposes.
• Develop space utilization recommendations and solutions to unique project planning and administrative problems as needed.
• Identify problems, trends, or future facility and infrastructure needs and make recommendations for facility improvements.
• Respond to requests for reports and documentation concerning functional use of facilities and space to support short, mid, and long-range planning scenarios.
• Provide technical and administrative support to advance the campus master plan and capital program.
• Manage data and construction documents including drawings, specifications, campus maps, and records.
• Coordinate and assist in system reporting requirements.
• Conduct annual space audits and collect space data, including departmental room assignments, in order to update the space inventory database.
• Provide AutoCAD support for the department.
• Keep abreast of technological developments.

Programming and Analysis:

• Conduct programming, feasibility analysis, development of alternatives, and planning for projects on campus and at other University properties.
• Perform needs assessment for determining actual facilities and space characteristics.
• Prepare responsive space solution analysis with options and comprehensive space design drawing alternatives that support project implementation.
• Assist in responses to space request proposals.
• Evaluate and recommend improvements to space planning and management processes.

Perform related duties as required:

• Assist planning and design committees.
• Participate on campus committees as they are identified.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's degree in architecture, urban planning, building construction technology.
• At least 4 years of experience in space planning, architectural programming, design management, facilities management, architecture/interior projects or related field.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Demonstrated knowledge, skill and ability to manage computer-based facilities and space management systems, including use of GIS and CAD.
• Strong analytical skills and experience developing space and facility data analysis.
• Ability to provide study reports, technical documentation, and project plans.
• Strong organizational and time management skills including the ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to work effectively with diverse constituents including faculty, staff, and students at all levels.
• Proficiency in Microsoft software applications - Excel, Word, Powerpoint.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

• The position requires working at a computer/video display terminal and desk for extended periods of time.
• May require travel between campuses and off-campus locations.
