Loyola University Chicago ( LUC ), College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Biology invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral associate, with expertise in the area of stream ecology. The position is funded for 2 years. For more information about the department visit www.luc.edu/ biology.

The post-doctoral scholar will work with Dr. Timothy Hoellein on a research project funded by the National Science Foundation that will quantify the role of stormflows on plastic litter dynamics in urban streams. The project will include field and laboratory work that spans physical and biological dimensions of stream ecosystems, including geomorphology, hydrology, plastic pollutants, and organisms. The post-doctoral scholar will have the opportunity to lead method development, conduct field and laboratory analyses, supervise collaborating graduate and undergraduate students, analyze data, attend conferences, and write manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication. In addition, the person who fills this position will work closely with collaborators at the University of Toronto and University of New Hampshire, including potential travel to those study sites. Finally, the post-doc will teach one course during the academic year (for year 1 and year 2 of the position), in the topic of introductory biology or ecology in the Department of Biology.

Qualifications
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in biology, ecology, or a related field, experience with stream ecology field and laboratory work, and a valid U.S. driver’s license. Applicants with prior experience in geographic information systems, stream ecology, plastic pollution (macro- and microplastics), and hydrological analyses are especially encouraged to apply.
