Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities
VCU’s Technology Services Department is seeking to hire an Endpoint System Administrator. This position is part of a skilled team that designs and maintains VCU’s central endpoint management architecture and applications. The primary purpose of this position is to provide system administration and support of the Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops infrastructure for university-wide departments and schools. This position will design and develop application and desktop virtualization solutions which improves delivery and compatibility of applications by encapsulating them from the underlying operating system on which they are executed. The department is also responsible for managing VCU’s Microsoft Endpoint Manager Configuration Manager ( MECM ) and Jamf Pro infrastructure and as such, this position is expected to act as a backup to support those systems.

Minimum Hiring Standards
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent experienc
  • 3+ years of experience with Windows Desktop and Windows Server OS incident troubleshooting
  • Intermediate to Advanced Comprehension of Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops
  • Experience with Active Directory services and administration, including Group Policy management
  • Working knowledge of current Windows operating systems – Windows 10, Server 2012/2016/2019
  • Working knowledge of common workstation provisioning methods and the ability to troubleshoot software applications
  • Demonstrated experience in scripting and programming languages such as Python or Powershell.
  • Basic to intermediate understanding of networking protocols and communications; such as TCP /IP, DNS, DHCP, and common service ports
  • Intermediate understanding of information security principles
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, administrators and students to provide technical support, consultation, and training in computer system operations and technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing, particularly with regard to the development of manuals, procedures, instructional materials and reports.
  • Ability to work successfully in teams and independently with technical and non-technical individuals
  • Ability to quickly acquire new skills and knowledge relevant to technology

Preferred Hiring Standards
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Azure offerings with experience in Azure Active Directory, Microsoft Intune, and Windows Virtual Desktop is preferred
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of the Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Management ( MECM formerly SCCM ) platform and its service offerings is strongly preferred
  • CCA -V, MCSE, and/or various GIAC certifications are preferred
  • Experience working in a university setting is preferred
