Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities
The Partnership for People with Disabilities, a grant funded University Center in the School of Education, is seeking a dynamic candidate for the role of Graphic Design and Web Services Specialist. This position leads and manages the support and optimization of websites and other digital media for the Partnership. Responsibilities include layout and content design, user experience, digital accessibility, and content management system implementation. Tasks include, but are not limited to the following:
Design new pages, sites and user interfaces as needed
Develop, design, and maintain templates using the university approved T4 web content
management system
Perform front-end web development
Oversee and manage all website projects from concept to implementation and long-term success Including, among other aspects, collecting requirements, determining project timelines, and developing graphics
Maintain continuity of themes and design layout
Provide primary day-to-day support and maintenance for the Partnership for People with Disabilities sub-websites; work with leadership and stakeholders to ensure content is effectively communicated in a timely manner
Meet VCU’s Web Standards and Guidelines which include requirements for accessibility, branding, captioning content, content management, design, mobile and security to ensure visual consistency between web and print publications in the Division
Participate on the eLearning Team and attend meetings with project staff and funders as needed
Use Siteimprove (ensuring all websites are accessible)
Convert documents to accessible PDFs
Create visual text and imagery concepts, software, to communicate ideas that inspire, inform, or captivate consumers
Develop the layout and production design for websites, logos, brochures, flyers, posters, eLearning presentations, infographic, etc.
Determine size and arrangement of copy and illustrative material, as well as font style and size
Prepare rough drafts of material based on an agreed brief. Review final layouts and suggest improvements if necessary
Ensure final graphics and layouts are visually appealing and on-brand
Provide excellent customer service skills
Supervise part-time workers as needed
Provide training to other staff
Present at meetings upon request

Other Duties as assigned Minimum Hiring Standards
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Proficiency with design software and technologies (such as Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Adobe Acrobat) and Dreamweaver
Extensive knowledge of TerminalFour (T4) Content Management Systems or similar systems
Proficiency with video and audio editing using Kaltura or similar software
Proficiency providing technical expertise and support
A keen eye for aesthetics and details
Instructional design skills (note: engaging, interactive, etc.)
Ability to manage multiple complex tasks and priorities independently and with a team
Self-initiation with ability to make decisions with minimal supervision
Excellent problem solving and client service skills
Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced, team-oriented environment.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
Excellent customer service skills
Supervise part-time workers as needed
Must be able to train other staff
Present at meetings upon request
Must be a self-starter and have the ability to find professional development opportunities to support growth in the position
Ability to grasp new concepts quickly and efficiently
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU Preferred Hiring Standards
Knowledge of adult learning principles
Ability to perform front-end web development requiring skilled knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc.

Applicants must be able to work in multiple locations in the Richmond area (700 E. Franklin Street and 3600 E. Broad). Parking is at the expense of the employee, and may be purchased through the VCU Parking office. Salary will commensurate with experience.
