Director of the Asia Global Institute



Applications and nominations are invited for appointment as Director of the Asia Global Institute from as soon as possible.

The Institute was established in July 2015 as a multidisciplinary think tank within the University. The institute’s mission is to generate and disseminate research and ideas on global issues from Asian perspectives. It aims to inform global policy and actions towards a prosperous and sustainable future for all. Information about the Institute can be obtained at https://www.asiaglobalinstitute.hku.hk/ .

Applicants should preferably be an academic leader with distinguished record of academic achievements in the relevant field. Desirable credentials include but not limited to:

  • A strong vision and global outlook, and the ability to persuade and align support for one’s vision;
  • A collegial, consultative, yet decisive management style;
  • Administrative experience and skills to lead and develop a high-profile academic institute;
  • The ability to undertake strategic planning and resource management, including budgetary, human resources and infrastructural matters;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to communicate effectively with all stakeholders; and
  • Established connections with international and local academic, business, and civil society leaders and policy makers.


Reporting to the Provost, the Director will lead the strategic direction of the Institute with the guidance and advice of the Management Committee and the Advisory Board; oversee the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the research, learning and knowledge exchange programmes of the Institute; liaise with the global network of donors, experts, corporate sponsors, government agencies and other think tanks for potential development and fundraising; and manage the day-to-day operation including the finances, human resources and infrastructural matters of the Institute.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
