Job Description:

Amherst College invites applications for the Furnishings and Interiors Project Manager position. The Furnishings and Interiors Project Manager is a full-time, year-round position, job group and level PT-2. Given Amherst's distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country, the successful candidate will demonstrate the w ays in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community.

Project management of interior design and furnishings projects for major capital projects and stand-alone interiors/furnishings projects. Includes all aspects of research, selection, negotiation, contracting, procurement, logistics, moving, installation, warranty, invoicing and related responsibilities.

Manage and prioritize typically between 20 and 30 simultaneous projects, manage client expectations and conduct all projects with limited supervision.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
Design:
  • Field requests, determine programmatic needs, identify solutions, and all aspects associated with successful communications with a diverse set of clients.
  • Independently perform design work related to the selection of interior finishes, furnishings, fixtures, and equipment. Incorporate requirement of applicable standards, codes, and guidelines,
  • Develop layout drawings (CAD) of interior spaces that address end users' programmatic requirements.
  • Establish budgets and schedules for interior design projects.

Contracting and purchasing:
  • Responsible for contracting services requiring knowledge of vendor sources, product availability, specifications, applicable contracts, discount pricing, lead times, delivery terms, as well as the ability to obtain quotations, prepare bid tabulations, prepare purchase orders, analyze complaints, make arrangements for timely deliveries, manage installations, negotiate contractual terms, manage punch list process and negotiate return of damaged or incorrect items.

Furnishings standards:
  • Develop and update college standards for various repetitive furnishings procurement items ie. Faculty office suite of furniture, classroom furniture, etc.
  • Research market offerings annually and proposed modifications to standards as appropriate
  • Maintain webpage describing these standards and with instructions for design and procurement process for streamlined experience including information on disposal process for old items no longer needed

Capital Projects:
  • Provide design and purchasing services for major capital projects to include furniture for new and renovated buildings.
  • Maintain spreadsheets with pertinent information for tracking expenditures and documenting order dates, vendor information, etc.

Qualifications
Required:
  • Associate's Degree
  • 3 years analogous experience
  • Excellent time management and communication skills
  • Proven ability to successfully communicate with a diverse set of stakeholders, and commitment to contributing to an inclusive culture for all.

Preferred:
  • Bachelor's Degree in design or interiors or architecture
  • More than 5 years direct experience
