Founded in 1989, The Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) today is a modern and full-fledged university with about 10,000 full-time undergraduates, 1,900 postgraduates and 8,700 part-time students.  We tailor our professional programmes to market trends and industry needs, thus providing our students with clear career paths. The University has joined the Joint University Programmes Admission System (JUPAS) since 2007.  Currently, the University offers 220 programmes in its 5 Schools namely School of Arts and Social Sciences, Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration, School of Education and Languages, School of Nursing and Health Studies and School of Science and Technology.  In addition, there are more than 2,000 full-time and 2,000 part-time students studying in the Li Ka Shing School of Professional and Continuing Education (LiPACE).

With the HKSAR Legislative Council's approval, The Open University of Hong Kong will be renamed as Hong Kong Metropolitan University effective from 1 September 2021, which marks the University’s unique position in metropolitan Hong Kong and points to aspiration in the 21st century.

The Department of Creative Arts at the School of Arts and Social Sciences is now inviting applications for the position of Assistant Professor / Senior Lecturer / Lecturer.  Applications from qualified scholars in the following specialty areas of Sound design and editing, sound recording, audio mixing, music technology, sound engineering or Advertising, media and communication, cultural and creative industries will be considered.

Assistant Professor / Senior Lecturer / Lecturer (Creative Arts) (Ref: 21001D0)

 

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

The appointee(s) will mainly be responsible for the followings:

  • Planning, development, coordination and delivery of courses (including classroom and/or studio teaching) in Sound design and editing, sound recording, audio mixing, music technology or sound engineering at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
  • Undertaking/engaging in academic research and/or creative production activities;
  • Undertaking/engaging in scholarly and professional activities;
  • Participating in School/University activities and administration; and
  • Performing any other duties as assigned by the Dean (A&SS) or his/her nominee(s).


Requirements

Applicants for Assistant Professor are expected to possess the following qualifications, experience and attributes:

  • An earned doctorate in a relevant discipline with relevant teaching/professional experience (preferably including programme and course administration);
  • Record of research and peer-reviewed publications, involvement in professional and community services & activities; and
  • Teaching experience with an interdisciplinary approach will be an advantage;
  • A good command of English and Chinese (both Cantonese and Putonghua) ; and
  • Forward thinking in terms of programme development, familiar with the industrial practices, and knowledgeable about local and international educational standards in the professions.

Applicants established practicing artists with a strong record of experience in creative work and research but without a doctorate will be considered for the post of Senior Lecturer/Lecturer.

 

Compensation Package

Competitive compensation package including basic salary, end-of-contract gratuity and discretionary incentive (if any) will be offered to the right candidate.
