Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Aquatic Center Director, perform a variety of technical and skilled maintenance work involved in the repair and maintenance of the District's water craft, instructional equipment, and related tools at the Aquatic Center; organize and maintain boat and equipment storage areas; and perform general housekeeping duties in the facility. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: 1. Perform a full range of skilled maintenance duties involved in the repair and maintenance of District watercraft including kayaks, sailboats, and motor powered boats.2. Perform preventive maintenance on all instructional and safety related equipment including surfboards, fishing equipment, life vests, and related items.3. Perform safety checks on all watercraft and other instructional and safety equipment.4. Modify equipment to accommodate disabled students' needs.5. Design, build, implement, and maintain warehousing systems including equipment racking and storage systems.6. Supervise and maintain an equipment inventory and check-out system.7. Schedule, prioritize, and organize assignments and work according to priority; maintain routine records.8. Operate a full range of power and hand tools, equipment, and machines used in the repair and maintenance of watercraft, repair and maintenance of instructional and safety equipment, and in the construction of storage facilities; service and maintain tools and maintenance equipment in working order.9. Maintain shop area in a clean and orderly manner; requisition, obtain, and store spare parts, supplies, and materials.10. Design, fabricate, maintain, and repair rolling stock of trailers and carts.11. Transport equipment to offsite locations.12. As assigned, may assist in paddle sports, whitewater rafting, and kayaking training and instruction.13. As assigned, may provide standby water safety and rescue services.14. Work cooperatively with Camp ABLE.15. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Knowledge and Abilities:
MUST HAVE KNOWLEDGE OF: Methods, materials, terminology, tools, and equipment used in the fabrication, maintenance, and repair of watercraft and aquatic instructional and safety equipment.Principles, practices, and procedures used in a variety of skilled and semi-skilled trades including carpentry and woodwork/finishing, machining, and glazing.Mig, Tig, stick, Oxyacetylene (steel, stainless steel, and aluminum), and linear and cross-link plastic welding principles, practices, and procedures.Acrylic fabrication principles and practices. CAD principles and practices.Appropriate safety precautions and procedures including basic boating safety principles and practices.Health and safety regulations.Proper methods of storing equipment, materials, and supplies.Technical aspects of field of specialty.Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.Record keeping techniques.Oral and written communication skills.Basic principles of supervision and training. MUST HAVE ABILITY TO: Perform a full range of semi-skilled and skilled tasks involved in the maintenance, repair, and alteration of watercraft and aquatic instructional and safety equipment including those requiring carpentry and woodwork/finishing, machining, and glazing skills.Safely and skillfully operate power equipment and hand tools involved in assigned maintenance, repair, and alteration duties.Maintain and repair a variety of tools and equipment.Read and use mechanical diagrams, repair manuals, and parts catalogues.Perform a variety of tasks and heavy manual labor for extended periods of time and in unfavorable weather conditions.Ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures.Analyze situations and adopt effective courses of action.Learn, understand, interpret, apply, and explain applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures using good judgment.Maintain accurate and complete records and files and prepare routine reports.Operate and use assigned equipment.Understand and follow oral and written directions.Organize work to meet schedules and deadlines.Work cooperatively with others.Work independently in the absence of supervision.Work with and exhibit sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse racial, ethnic, disabled, sexual orientation, and cultural populations of community college students.Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Education and Experience:
Any combination equivalent to: four (4) years of training or experience that demonstrates journey-level skill in watercraft repair and maintenance
INCLUDING Factory training in inflatable boat repair.

Minimum Qualifications: (Faculty and Academic Administrator Positions Only)


Desirable Qualifications:
Some lifeguard training is desirable.

Salary
Range 24 Steps 1-7, $4,584.27-$5,800.05. Initial placement for external applicants is Step 1. An excellent benefits package which includes medical, vision, dental, retirement, vacation, generous sick leave package, and life insurance is available for the employee and eligible dependents.

Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday: 7:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. (Approximately). Work schedule may be adjusted to meet the needs of the office, and may include some evenings and weekends. Successful candidate may be assigned to any of the campus sites (Chula Vista, National City, Otay Mesa, and/or San Ysidro).
