Minimum required qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Humanities (or related discipline) and/or master’s degree in Religious Studies. In addition to a master’s degree, applicants must credential to teach (1) Introduction to Humanities, which encompasses a variety of disciplines across the visual, performing, and literary arts, and (2) Introduction to World Religions. Your cover letter should specify, using the credentialing information below, how you will credential to teach these two courses.
  • Documented college teaching experience.
  • Ability to contribute to the diversity and excellence of the learning experience through college service, teaching, and public engagement.
  • Applicant must demonstrate commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment. Candidates who can contribute to this goal are encouraged to apply; the search committee expects candidates to identify their strengths and experiences in this area.

Preferred qualifications:
  • A Ph.D. in Humanities (or related discipline) or in Religious Studies with coursework that will enable the applicant to credential to teach both humanities and religion courses.
  • Documented community or state college teaching experience.
  • Experience teaching in traditional, asynchronous online, and live online environments.
  • Prefer applicants with: (1) familiarity with various teaching methodologies /practices, (2) the ability to develop activities that enhance and expand classroom instruction, (3) a passion for student learning.
  • Demonstrated commitment to an inclusive and rigorous learning environment.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and people skills.
  • Demonstrated experience designing curriculum and courses.
  • Brightspace (D2L) experience preferred.
  • Quality Matters Certification preferred.


Expectations:
  • Teach five (5) courses each semester Fall & Spring. 15-15-0 contract.
  • The expected start date for the position is January 2022.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to participate in course development and program assessment.
  • Provide support to the Division of Fine Arts and Humanities.

Credentialing Requirements:
Humanities
1. Master’s degree in Humanities
Or
2. Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Humanities
Or
3. Master’s degree with 18 graduate semester hours in at least two of the following subject areas:
Anthropology, Art Appreciation/Art History, Classics, Drama, English/Creative Writing, Humanities, Interdisciplinary Studies, Liberal/General Studies, Literature, Music Appreciation/Music History, Philosophy, Religion/Theology, Western/Eastern Civilization.

Religion
1. Master’s degree in Religion or Theology
Or
2. Master’s degree with 18 graduate semester hours in any combination of the following subject areas:
  • Humanities (with specific coursework in Religion), Philosophy (including coursework in Logic, if appropriate to this teaching discipline), Religion, Theology

It is required that the 18 graduate semester hours include at least 9 graduate semester hours in Religion.


Position Summary:
A faculty member at SPC has the primary function of instruction, coaching and student development. Secondary functions include assisting the college in developing and maintaining a quality program of instruction, providing service to the college and continuing professional development.

Requirements::
Education:

Master's degree or applicable college degree in related academic discipline (Humanities or Philosophy or Religion or Art History). Doctorate degree a plus with multiple areas of teaching experience (ARH, HUM, PHI, REL).

Experience:

Teaching experience at the College level is required. Related work experience preferred for technical programs.

Skills:
  • Experience in online instruction or technology enhanced instruction

  • Supports the community college philosophy through commitment to success of students with diverse goals, backgrounds and learning styles
  • Instructs students in accordance with college policies, procedures and approved curricula
  • Uses out-of-class duty hours effectively for class preparation, assisting students and participating in department/college activities
  • Serves the college through any of the following: (a) committee membership, (b) curriculum development, (c) development of innovative instruction, (d) sponsorship of student organizations, (e) representation of the college in professionally related community activities, and (f) special projects
  • Supports college extracurricular functions
  • Maintains currency in teaching field(s) through professional development and scholarly activities
  • Demonstrates a professional, cooperative and considerate attitude toward students, colleagues and staff
  • Performs related duties as required
