Position Information

This is a full-time, permanent (probationary) position.

Conditions of Employment

The salary range for this classification is: minimum $4,279 - maximum $6,077 monthly.

Major Duties

Under the general supervision of the Associate Dean, the Credential Analyst will oversee the online admissions and credential request system (currently SM Apply) which will include building new applications and making changes as needed. The incumbent will collaborate with department chairs, program and clinical coordinators about any changes to application or credential request procedures. The incumbent will perform a variety of credential functions such as reviewing, evaluating and processing applications for public school teaching, administrative, counseling, school psychology credentials and permits; act as a campus resource and provides advisement, assistance and current information to students, faculty, faculty committees and others on matters regarding the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) requirements and prepare reports related to credential activities for the College of Education (COE) department/divisions, the University, and external agencies such as the CCTC. Additionally, the incumbent will have the full authority to notify the CCTC that a credential, certificate or teaching permit be issued to an applicant.


Required Experience and Education:

Equivalency of two years of experience in the review, analysis or processing applications for teaching credentials, certificates or permits.

Equivalency of one year of the above required experience may be equated with any combination of the following:

Two years of experience processing academic records to determine eligibility for admissions or degrees. One year of college level education (full-time equivalent) may be equated for up to one year of the academic record processing experience.


Two years of experience performing technical, clerical or secretarial duties involving formulation, revision or interpretation of academic requirements or courses. One year of college level education (full-time equivalent) may be equated for up to one year of the technical, clerical or secretarial experience.

Preferred Education: Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Good organizational skills. Comprehensive and detailed knowledge of the university infrastructure, policies and procedures.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Comprehensive knowledge of credential programs and Commission on Teacher Credentialing Policies;
Ability to learn and use online software systems such as Peoplesoft, SM apply;
Excellent written and oral communication skills and
Experience collaborating with department chairs, program coordinators, and other staff.


50% - Credential Analyst Activities

*Handles all credential matters for the College of Education (COE) including final review of credential applications and related documentation to determine applicant eligibility for credentials using a variety of State mandated policies and regulations.

*Prepares letters of support that reflect the current status of teacher candidate's progress in the program, letters to employers that indicates the student's completion of the program, and letters for students who have incomplete applications.

*Evaluates and interprets out of state/country trained teachers/students credential documents.

*Evaluates teacher candidates credential applications and has full authority to notify the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) that a credential, (including adult education credentials) be issued to an applicant.

*Provides information to local school districts regarding CSUDH prepared teachers and their credential status.

*Maintains contact with licensing agency (California Commission on Teacher Credentialing) to facilitate the granting of credentials for CSUDH teacher candidates.

*Performs data collection and entry into the credential information database, and assists in preparing reports for external agencies, university offices and the COE with regard to credentials.

*Enters data into the new campus data base, PeopleSoft and maintains and updates student credential information.

25% - Oversees program admission and credentialing application system for COE (currently SM Apply)

*Makes updates as needed or requested by chairs and program coordinators in SM Apply.

*Open/Close applications as needed in SM Apply.

20% - Ensures the Department Chairs and Program Coordinators are able to review and update the program applications in SM Apply as necessary to meet the commission data collection requirements.

*Trains new admissions evaluator or student assistants as needed in relation to SM Apply.

*Works with Graduate Studies on policies and procedures related to CalState Apply/graduate admissions as related to SM Apply.

*Provides assistance and support to faculty and program coordinators.

*Creates and/or updates program applications and forms in SM Apply as required and response to program and state credential requirements. *Provides information and assistance to faculty, staff, students and other interested parties by interpreting credentialing requirements and processes.

5% - Other duties as assigned.
