Position Information

This is a full-time management (MPP) position. MPP employees serve at the pleasure of the campus President. MPPs do not serve a probationary period and never receive permanent status.

This position is a "designated position" in the California State University's Conflict of Interest Code. The successful candidate accepting this position is required to file Conflict of Interest forms subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission.

Extended work schedule when necessary.

Conditions of Employment

Possession of a valid Driver's License is required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

The person holding this position is considered a `mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Major Duties

Under general direction of the Director of Facilities Planning, Design, and Construction, the Senior Project Manager is responsible for the management/coordination of the design and construction of new facilities and renovations at CSUDH, from minor projects to major capital projects. Responsibilities include the development of capital project programs, project budgets, and project coordination from concept through planning preparation for bidding, construction inspection, and closeout.

Qualifications

Required Education:

-Bachelor's degree in a related field such as Architecture or Engineering.

Required Experience:

-At least five (5) years experience as a Project Manager handling construction projects ranging from $1M to $10 M, including guiding the work of architectural and engineering consultants in the preparation of construction drawings. Experience in facilities design and construction management in large institutions, preparation of bid documents and specifications, contract administration, and fiscal and construction management.

Experience with Design/Bid/Build, Design/Build, and CM@Risk construction delivery methods

Preferred Experience:

-15 years of experience as a Project Manager

-Experience with Higher Education institutions in order of preference with projects in the California State University system, University of California, or other 4-year public or private university, community college, K-12 School District, or other State, County, or City Public Works agencies.

-Experience with CPDC space planning requirements, Capital Outlay Planning experience

-Experience with CPDC schematic review requirements

-Experience with DSA and SFM review requirements.

Preferred Certifications:
- LEED-AP Certification, PMP Certification, CCM Certification, DBIA certification
- Legal aspects of Public Works construction
- Architect, State of California Licensed preferred, but not required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

-A working knowledge of laws and regulations governing Public Works, design and construction ordinances, and other regulations applicable to building, construction, maintenance, and repair including building codes for the State of California, fire codes, accessibility requirements, Title 24 requirements, and other industry standards.
-Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, good organizational and information management skills, the ability to administer, manage and track projects with concurrent timelines, and methodical and detailed documentation and record-keeping.
-Collaborative and teamwork approach to problem-solving; ability to manage competing deadlines; ability to manage projects with a sense of urgency to completing projects, attention to detail, effective time management, and follow-through to the resolution of open items. Ability to make sq. ft. calculations quickly without a calculator
-Ability to represent the department in a professional manner to determine campus customer's needs and design requirements.
-Ability to communicate effectively and work within an ethnically diverse campus environment.
-Proven ability to manage several large numbers of projects in various stages of completion simultaneously.
-Ability to use AutoCAD and project management and scheduling software, such as Primavera and MSProject
-Able to be self-motivated with responsibilities and duties.
