Academic Advisor I
Position Category: Staff - Full-Time
Summary:
We are looking for exceptional academic advisors to join our team. Our advising practice is holistic, proactive, and data-informed. We hope to employ an individual who is passionate about student success and is an excellent communicator.
Advises new, prospective, and transfer students in all aspects of academic programs. This includes development and career advising, as well as helping students develop an educational plan toward graduation. Duties include explaining policies, making referrals, maintaining records, interpreting test scores, advising on academic standards issues, coordinating with faculty and staff, and representing the department on various projects, committees, and meetings as assigned. Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree plus one year of experience related to Summary of Duties totaling five years.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of and commitment to UVU’s mission and strategic directions.
- Knowledge of academic advising, theories and research relevant to the profession.
- Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Effective analytical skills to collect, compile, analyze, and evaluate information.
- Ability to work with others to accomplish organizational objectives.
- Service-oriented, diplomatic, and able to present ideas in user-friendly language.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Work is performed in a normal office environment.
