Job Description:
The Student Relations Coordinator (SRC) serves as the lead professional advisor for the college, overseeing professional advising services for the college, and is a member of the University Advising Leadership Team, providing feedback and consultation on academic advising related policies, practices, and procedures. The SRC offers broad expertise and technical knowledge that comes with knowing and communicating information about all of the college academic programs, particulars of university academic policy and procedures, technological understanding of different advising tools, and campus resources and referral processes. This expertise enables the SRC to actively lead academic advising, and advise students in the college, assisting them in developing educational goals and identifying and addressing academic barriers to success. Because of the SRC's broad understanding and student success focus, the SRC provides important perspective to the director of University Advising, other advising leaders and academic advisors across the university, the college dean, and college faculty.

Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree (conferred on an official transcript by the time of hire) and three (3) years of academic advising and/or student support experience in higher education,

    OR

    Bachelor’s degree (conferred on an official transcript at the time of application) and five (5) years of experience in higher education in academic advising and/or student support areas.

  • Demonstrated commitment to students with diverse backgrounds including, but not limited to, students of color, LGBTQ+ students, first generation students, students with disabilities, and/or international students.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated experience with fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
  • Professional academic advising experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting students and their success.
  • Working knowledge of student development and student life concerns.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with demonstrated abilities to communicate effectively with many different constituents - including students, faculty, staff, administrators.
  • Evidence of successful experience working with a wide variety of student support services.
  • Ability to interpret and implement University academic policies related to student academic standing, progressing, and completion.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new information and interpret it with attention to detail and accuracy.


Other Requirements:
Work safely at all times, which includes but is not limited to, participating and completing all required safety trainings, as well as performing all job tasks in accordance with Minnesota State University, Mankato policies and procedures utilizing appropriate tools, equipment and personal protective equipment.

Based upon this position’s essential functions, it reports to the Mankato Campus, 5 days a week, and does not have the option of telework.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Processes are currently underway for a merger of the College of Arts & Humanities, and the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences. The SRC is expected to play a key role in professional advising transitions that may accompany the merger.
