Job Description

The position involves conducting research in the space of signal processing, RF machine learning, secure communications, and radio engineering.

Successful candidates will have chance to work with top-notched researchers/leaders from both academia and industry on secure communications systems spanning novel physical layer waveforms design (emphasis on LPI, LPD, and AJ communications), efficient hardware implementation in software defined radios, applying machine learning techniques to the RF spectrum, and aspects of automotive cybersecurity.

The position's responsibilities include: conducting collaborative research in these spaces, developing publications for top venues including journals, conferences, and workshops; mentoring MS and PhD students to work in national security domains; and developing proposals to various funding agencies such as the Department of Defense (DoD), Intelligence Community (IC), DoD contractors, etc. All work will be performed in an ITAR-restricted lab.

Required Qualifications

- PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or other related disciplines. PhD must be awarded no more than four years prior to the effective date of appointment with a minimum of one year eligibility remaining.
- A solid research record evidenced by high quality publications in IEEE/ACM/SIAM journals and/or top-tier IEEE/ACM/SIAM conferences.
- Strong theoretical background in mathematics and analytical thinking, demonstrated by a track record of fundamental research in signal processing, optimization and/or machine learning.
- Ability to pursue independent research and a demonstrated capability of mentoring graduate students.
- U.S. citizenship, to meet contractual requirements of restricted research tasking

Preferred Qualifications

Experience designing and/or testing software-defined radios and/or PHY-layer waveforms
- Experience participating in multi-disciplinary research teams
- Experience and/or interest in national security
