Position Summary:

The Transfer Transition Program was launched by the Center for the First-Year Experience (CFYE) in 2010 with a mission to understand and improve the transfer student experience at UW-Madison. The Transition Advisor will provide academic and transition advising to prospective and newly admitted transfer students and establish, train, and manage a team of transfer peer advisors to help in this process. This position is designed to be performed largely in-person and reports to the Assistant Director, Transfer Initiatives within CFYE.

The Center for the First Year Experience (CFYE) at UW-Madison leads the campus in examining, informing, cultivating, facilitating and enhancing the first year on campus for all undergraduate transfer and freshman students. The office bridges the traditional divide of student and academic affairs by working collaboratively with every school and college, faculty in key departments, the Provost's Office, the Division of Enrollment Management and the Dean of Students Office to coordinate orientation programs and lead first year experience initiatives. Our work is guided by the Association of American Colleges and Universities Liberal Education America's Promise (LEAP) essential learning outcomes. UW-Madison enrolls approximately 1300 transfers and 7600 freshmen during each academic year.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

A Master's Degree from an accredited college or university is required at the time of application. It is preferable that the degree is in higher education or student affairs administration/leadership, curriculum and instruction, educational/counseling psychology, and/or college student development/personnel.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

REQUIRED:
- Minimum 1 full-time year of professional experience in the education field, preferably working at a 2 or 4-year college or university with transfer students and/or students in transition; part-time work during graduate school may be counted toward this minimum at half the rate of full-time work.

PREFERRED:
- Previous experience working with transfer students and a diverse student population, including veterans, first-generation students, under-represented students, and non-traditional students.
- Understanding of and commitment to supporting diversity, social justice, and inclusive excellence.
- Experience building partnerships across multiple offices and/or institutions and working within a team environment to accomplish goals.
- Qualities including strong communication skills and flexibility; the ability to work independently, think creatively and innovatively, and exercise sound judgment.
- Experience recruiting, selecting, training, supervising, and evaluating undergraduate student employees.
- Knowledge of UW-Madison academic programs, student resources, policies, and/or transfer admission procedures is desirable.

Additional Information:

The incumbent of this position must have the ability to work a limited number of evenings and weekends. One must also have the ability to travel, primarily within the states of Wisconsin, Illinois, and Minnesota.
