The Instructional Design and Technology Consultant is a key member of ASSETT, situated in the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL). This position serves as a consultant for the faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences (A&S) to provide instructional design and pedagogical and technical expertise. The Instructional Design and Technology Consultant provides consultations on a variety of instructional design concepts including, but not limited to, course design, active learning, digital, open and inclusive pedagogies, universal design for learning, accessibility, open education resources, learning management systems and other academic technologies. This position develops and plans workshops for faculty members to improve their teaching with technologies, course and curricular designs. Additionally, this position develops online resources for faculty including standard methodologies, videos, and articles describing how to teach optimally with academic technologies. This position collaborates with other ASSETT and CTL professionals to collect data about the effectiveness of ASSETT service offerings to deliver current and new programming that meet the teaching, learning, and technology needs of A&S faculty.

The Instructional Design and Technology Consultant plays an important role in informing the direction of and implementing instructional design and academic technology programming for faculty with the ultimate goal of improving the undergraduate student learning experience. This position reports to the ASSETT Manager and collaborates with the other ASSETT and CTL team members.
The University of Colorado Boulder is committed to building a culturally diverse community of faculty, staff, and students dedicated to contributing to an inclusive campus environment. We are an Equal Opportunity employer, including veterans and individuals with disabilities.

Who We Are

The mission of the Arts and Sciences Support of Education Through Technology (ASSETT) program is to integrate technology with pedagogy to promote impactful learning.

The CTL seeks to transform teachers and students in their educational practices, inspire innovative and evidence-based teaching, and to create a culture of continuous improvement. Impactful teaching, we believe, is not innately produced but is learned, informed by continuous dialogue and collective knowledge. As a Center, we invite educators to an open, common space where all are welcome to explore teaching practices, pose questions, have brave conversations, take creative risks, and embrace intellectual humility.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Provide instructional design and teaching with technology expertise for face-to-face, remote, and online modalities through:

  • Conducting one-on-one consultations with faculty in the areas of course design, teaching and learning with technologies, active learning strategies, universal design for learning, and digital, open and inclusive pedagogies.
  • Crafting and facilitating workshops, department presentations, and learning communities on the same areas listed above.
  • Keeping current with common and emerging educational technologies. Making recommendations for effective integrations of these technologies within best teaching and learning practices.
  • Applying problem-solving, universal design, and instructional design methodologies as part of consultations, workshops, and presentations.
  • Collecting data from consultations and events to measure effectiveness of those efforts and to help make strategic decisions about future offerings that improve ASSETT’s reach and efforts.

Develop Online Resources

  • Develop accessible online teaching and learning resources for faculty and students using universal design principles. Resources include newsletter articles, asynchronous workshop videos, video resources, checklists, and tips.

Collaborate on New and Emerging Teaching, Learning, and Technology Projects

  • Collaborate with ASSETT team members, A&S units, the Center for Teaching and Learning, Libraries and the Office of Information Technology on projects that promote, encourage and prioritize scholarly and inclusive teaching practices along with effective technology integration. Examples include the Innovation Incubator projects that spark new and innovative teaching practices, our Domain of One’s Own instance called Buffscreate, or new technology pilot projects.
