Job Summary

The Auburn University Harbert College of Business seeks a Communications Editor (Professional Business Writer) to join the college’s Office of Communications and Marketing.

Essential Functions

The primary functions of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining, designing and building news stories for the Harbert College of Business website via the college’s content management system. See examples of news story writing assignments here: News (auburn.edu)
  • Editing, producing and proofing publications, articles and other materials intended for the promotion of the college;
  • Writing, editing and pitching Press Releases;
  • Serving as the liaison with local, regional and national media representatives as well as Auburn University’s Office of Communications and Marketing.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Public Relations, Communication, Journalism, Marketing, Business or related field.
  • At least (3) years of experience in public relations, communications, and/or marketing services.
  • The ability to produce a high volume of written stories for various audiences (prospective students, current students, alumni, global business leaders, media, etc…) in a timely manner and in various formats.
  • Experience in feature writing, social media marketing, media relations, graphic design and website content management systems.
  • Complex research based writing experience (e.g., writing that speaks to the utility of published research).
  • Experience with earned media platforms such as Cision, that will enable the college to improve its national visibility, build better relationships with national media and secure more media coverage via high profile business platforms.
  • Pre-existing relationships with local, regional and national media.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement initiatives.
