The College of Engineering at Virginia Commonwealth University, Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering, has a postdoctoral position available. The successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to develop and expand upon a diversified technical skill set while making a positive contribution to the area of particle science and technology.

Research projects for this candidate will involve setting up the test rigs for testing the performances of HVAC filters, masks and respirators, and conducting the filtration efficiency measurement following the current testing standards and the sized-fractional filtration efficiency measurement under various flow conditions (i.e. constant, cyclic, and pulsed). The candidate will also be involved in the production of filtration media with functional microstructures. The candidate expects to use both the experimental and modeling approaches in these projects. In addition, the candidate will be required to summarize the research results, prepare project reports and journal manuscripts, and submit the prepared manuscripts to SCI journals.

The ideal candidate shall have a strong background in particle technology and numerical modeling of filtration media and systems. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in performing filtration research and modeling the performance of filtration elements and systems, as well as the experience in the journal publication. In this position, the successful candidate will also have the opportunity to work and collaborate with a vast network of scientists and engineers. Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in mechanical engineering.

- Experience in testing and modeling the performance of filtration media, elements and systems.

- Experience in the performance optimization of filtration media and systems, e.g., fibrous filter media and wall-flow filters.

- Ability to mentor junior team members, and ensure the highest levels of laboratory safety

- Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).

- Demonstrated ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams and tasks.

-Ability to work under tight deadlines and short turnaround times Preferred Qualifications
The candidate is able to independently set up experimental systems and numerical models to evaluate the performance of filtration media and elements. The candidate has demonstrated the experiences described in the job description and the strong record of papers published in SCI journals.
