Position Function:

The Assistant Director, Student Conduct reports to the Associate Dean of Students, and is an integral part of a dynamic team of professionals who provide leadership, oversight and direction for a conduct system that mitigates risk, and preserves University mission, Division values, and community engagement. In addition to advocacy for students, the Assistant Director performs duties of the judicial process for all university students.

Salary Grade : 15

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assists the Associate Dean of Students with administrative hearings while serving as the
primary adjudicator of alcohol and drug violations.
2. Directs and conducts formal Student Conduct hearings, serving as the representative for
Mississippi State University.
3. Oversees the maintenance of the Student Conduct records and the database (Advocate)
used by the Dean of Students’ office.
4. Generates reports required for university officials (Dean of Students and VPSA).
5. Works collaboratively with University police, residence life staff, student counseling,
student health services and academic departments as student advocate.
6. Selects, trains, and manages student conduct board and board hearing members.
7. Serves as campus-wide resource for distressed students by working and communicating
with University police, residence life staff, student counseling, student health services and
academic departments to support students.
8. Supervises the operation of the Bully’s Closet, Pantry, and oversight of campus vistas.
9. Trains resources on reporting incidents and using database as a primary reporting tool.
10. Manages potential fallout through weekly meetings between housing and resident life.
11. Serves on various university committees.
12. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's Degree in Counselor Education, Educational Leadership or related field.
1 year related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Education or related field.
Any additional years of related experience beyond the minimum.
Previous experience working in higher education.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including verbal and written.
2. Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
3. Ability to analyze and solve complex problems.
4. Excellent time-management skills.
5. Ability to compile information and prepare reports.
6. Skillful in use of PC, database management and related software applications.
7. Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

1. Requires limited lifting of files and records up to 25 pounds. Work is primarily performed in
a temperature-controlled facility.
2. Frequent external imposed deadlines; interruptions influence priorities; difficult to anticipate
nature or volume of work with certainty beyond a few days; meeting of deadlines and
coordination of unrelated activities are key to position; involves conflict-resolution or similar
interactions involving emotional issues or stress on a regular basis.
3. Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with
hands.
