Appointment: regular, part-time (.75FTE). Position is 40 hours per week during the academic year and summers off.

Position Summary: Oversees the set-up, service, staffing and cleanup for all meal services for up to 7,000 transactions daily in a residential college environment. Complies with Dining & Event Services (DES) standards and philosophy in performing all key areas of accountability and other essential duties and responsibilities.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
    Manages daily Diner operations with an emphasis on customer service. Scheduling of staff to ensure continuous coverage throughout service times Daily supervision of all Diner positions General oversight of staff members Follows and adheres to departmental and University protocols, standards, rules and policies Ensures proper signage for product identification and dietary concerns Drives servery Hazard Analysis for Critical Control Points (HAACP) compliance and general cleanliness
Customer issues/suggestions Helps resolve immediate customer issues: escalate to Director of Dining and Cafes if unable to resolve within approx. 5 minutes Collaborates on solutions for customer suggestions/requests Leads and develops regular and student staff members, creating a dynamic staffing environment. Interviews and hires student staff Ensures proper orientations and training of all staff members, including temporary staff Provides continuous customer service training Assists the management team in evaluating and developing staff performance Works with supervisor to coach staff on performance issues, taking corrective action as needed Participates in progressive counseling as appropriate Communicates departmental initiatives and announcements, University events, and other pertinent information to staff members Communicates any issues promptly to supervisor. Participates in resolution as appropriate Actively participates in venue improvement planning, including new product/menu concepts, marketing and signage, and pricing Works in a collaborative manner with culinary, conference, catering and purchasing teams, as well as other University groups Coordinates with catering and other teams on special events Occasionally works in diner stations as needed Motivates staff, cultivates team building and problem solves Maintains comfortable and pleasant environment for guests Performs duties in a safe manner and reports all accidents to the immediate supervisor Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor Complies with Dining & Event Services standards and philosophy Adheres to policies as outlined in the DES Handbook Ability to respectfully work, communicate and provide leadership within a diverse campus community
Qualifications:
    Demonstrates time management skills supporting a complex work load; ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects Well versed in Microsoft Software Suite, Zoom and Google Drive Ability to pass pre-employment background inquiry and testing, including a physical, drug screening, and strength test Must possess a valid Food Worker Card Regular and reliable attendance Ability to respectfully work, communicate and provide leadership within a diverse campus community

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Supervises Dining Service Workers
  • Assists Dining Services Managers in personnel functions including hiring, performance evaluations, discipline and scheduling
  • Assures The Diner staff is doing their jobs adequately
  • Manages hours and schedules for all Diner staff members
  • Enforces policies as outlined in the DES Staff Handbook

Education/Experience
    A college or university degree with one or more years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Language Skills
    Must be able to speak clearly, listen attentively, read, write, and understand English Ability to communicate with all levels of staff members in various settings, including one-on-one and small groups Tact in working with professional peers from other departments and all subordinates

Mathematical Skills

Reasonable skill in computing, reporting and working with numbers as it applies to pricing and cashiering; calculating work schedules and time-cards; estimating production needs

Reasoning Ability
    Proven strategic planning skills and a customer focused business approach Ability to think quickly and accurately, showing initiative and sound judgment Ability to communicate operational challenges, with recommended solutions where possible

Compensation and Benefits: Up to $21.00/hr DOE. Decisions about starting salaries are made based on the extent and relatedness of the candidate's education and experience and on internal equity and market considerations.
