About the Opportunity:
The Academic Technologies (AT) team and the Director of Institutional Assessment and Evaluation (DIAE) at Northeastern University (NU) seek a motivated, self-starting individual to be a member of our dynamic team as an Academic Instructional Technologist - Assessment and Outcomes. The successful candidate will be a key link between the AT team and the DIAE, in order to help faculty connect their teaching, learning and student assessment practices utilizing primarily the Canvas LMS and the AEFIS assessment management platform. These assessment tools are being used for course- and program-level assessment, evaluation and continuous improvement across the university.

The primary objective of the position, Academic Instructional Technologist - Assessment and Outcomes, will be to support and enhance the teaching, learning and assessment enterprise through direct interaction with faculty and staff. A key function will be to assist faculty in integrating technology for the assessment of student learning outcomes into their in-person and online courses. Training on the appropriate use of educational assessment methods and digital tools to measure and improve student outcomes will be provided to NU faculty across all schools/colleges at the university. As a faculty-facing member of the AT team, the role will collaborate with other areas of the NU teaching and learning community (the Provost's office, CATLR, EDGE, and the schools/colleges) to help provide comprehensive support, at both the group training and individual levels, to faculty as they prepare for, implement and utilize the results from a robust assessment and evaluation ecosystem. The supported faculty include those across the NU global network community.

Responsibilities:
Faculty Engagement
  • Support course-level faculty questions about assessment methods and tools (AEFIS and Canvas integration with AEFIS, as well other data collection platforms)
  • Provide in-person consultations on best practices in the utilization of the AEFIS integration to improve student outcomes
  • Develop proactive strategies to engage faculty in assessment of student learning outcomes to support program assessment plans and general education assessment
  • Other relevant duties as assigned
Documentation/Training
  • Create and maintain ServiceNow knowledge base documentation for AEFIS and Canvas integration according to ITS standards.
  • Develop, present, and maintain training sessions and workshops, both online and in-person, in collaboration with the Office of Institutional Evaluation and Assessment and CATLR
Academic Technologies Solutions Development
  • Support the testing, planning, development, and implementation of assessment technologies into the NU learning environment
  • With the DIAE, co-administer AEFIS and integrations with Canvas and university systems
  • Serve as the technical expert for AEFIS with extensive knowledge for how AEFIS is best utilized with Canvas and other assessment tools
  • Co-manage with the DIAE the vendor relationship with AEFIS representing end-user needs and staying current with vendor roadmap and releases


Partnership/Collaboration
  • Collaborate with DIAE to plan and prioritize faculty support for assessment
  • Collaborate with DIAE, CATLR, schools/colleges, and other departments and initiatives (SAIL, EDGE) to provide a holistic approach to assessment
  • Collaborate with the DIAE to share outcomes data to support improvement
  • Collaborate with other departments within Information Technology Services to leverage infrastructure and expertise throughout the division
  • Represent end-user needs in the administration of assessment tools
  • Actively communicate progress and participate in reviews with technical staff and senior management


Qualifications:
  • B.S. degree in instructional technology or bachelor's degree in another field with 3 years of related instructional technology experience
  • Demonstrated experience integrating current and emerging technologies in support of teaching and learning
  • Proficiency with common educational technology assessment tools (Canvas Quizzes, Assignments, Canvas Rubrics, Gradescope, AEFIS, LTI standards)
  • Experience with multimedia assessment
  • Experience in higher ed, or other academic or research community environment, including delivery of group and one-on-one support and training to faculty.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience interpreting learning analytics data and providing recommendations to improve outcomes
  • Ability to clearly identify the teaching, learning and assessment goals of faculty members and provide relevant, practical solutions using the available technology solutions
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues, perform root cause analysis, work with vendor contacts and support systems, and collaborate directly with the ITS Customer Experience organization to resolve faculty and student support requests
  • Ability to independently create curriculum, training opportunities, and training materials in support of the adoption of educational technology
  • Ability to communicate and document clearly at a variety of technical knowledge levels
  • Demonstrated strong writing skills
  • Desire for continuous self-improvement and maintenance of skills through training and demonstrated commitment to professional growth
  • Curious by nature and unafraid of asking questions
  • Self-starter, with a proven track record for creativity and initiative
  • Able to prioritize multiple projects and work streams in a fast-paced environment



Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2-4 years of experience supporting academic technologies, instructional design, and/or course development experience in a higher education environment.
  • M.S. degree in educational technology, instructional design, or related field
  • Experience with the assessment of student learning outcomes
  • Experience with accessibility standards and creating accessible teaching and learning materials
  • Knowledge of database structures and management
  • Knowledge of service management and ITIL processes

Location: Boston, Main Campus. Position can be mostly remote (within driving distance to Boston), with regular on-campus meetings and trainings required.
