    Department Summary
    The Business Affairs Office (BAO) provides efficient and effective business services for University of Oregon (UO) students, faculty, and staff; manages and secures UO material assets; and ensures UO business is conducted in accordance with all applicable regulations, policies, procedures, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and sound business practices.

    The BAO consists of 5 divisions reporting to the Associate Vice President for Business Affairs and Controller, and provides direct services to staff, students and UO departments: Financial Services/Accounts Payable/Travel, Student Financial Services, Payroll, Information Systems, and Treasury Management. These divisions manage the largest payroll in Eugene, support UO expenditures totaling more than $500 million, and manage the billing and collection of tuition and fees for more than 24,000 students. The BAO has approximately 60 FTE, and an annual operating budget of $6.6 million.

    The Student Financial Services-Accounts Receivable (A/R) department processes over $200 million in A/R charges each year.

    This position is part of the Student Financial Services unit.

    Position Summary
    The Student Account Specialist will perform in-depth accounts receivable analysis and interpret and explain all facets of student accounts. They will provide excellent customer service by responding inquiries. They will answer questions about billing accounts, and they will interpret and explain laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures to students, staff, government and other outside agencies pertaining to student accounts receivables, refunds and penalties, and financial aid.

    The Student Account Specialist will determine and initiate action within established policies to resolve problems and makes judgment calls as to when an exception can be made. They will Interpret student accounts receivables, refunds and penalties, and Financial Aid rules, regulations, and policy and makes certain exceptions to these policies, as needed. The specialist will seeks guidance in complex or less clearly defined areas only. They will prepare write-off reports, analyze financial aid refund reports, and refund accounts accordingly. The specialist will work with the Financial Aid Office to correct account balances, as needed. They will also manage returned mail for AR and Collections, per policy, including skip tracing.

    Minimum Requirements
  • Three years of office experience which included two years at full performance level and experience generating documents; and
  • Lead work responsibility or coordination of office procedures.
