Position Summary:
Job Summary Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Advancement (Major and Planned Giving), the Director of Stewardship works to recognize and advance relationships between the university and its donors, alumni, students, and friends. This individual, in partnership with members of the Advancement staff, oversees a range of activities that focuses on individual donors as well as larger affinity donor groups. The Director's work results in donors feeling appreciated and understanding that their gifts are critically important and have impact; motivating Alumni and friends in developing deeper bonds with and greater affection for Susquehanna University to support continuous giving, supporting significant donor retention, and overall creating a strong culture of philanthropy for the University. Specific Responsibilities
  • Work with the Vice President, the Assistant Vice President for Advancement (Major and Planned Giving) and the major and planned gifts staff to develop and execute stewardship and donor recognition and cultivation activities for the university's major donors. Examples:o Create and manage stewardship plans for individual donors of $1M+, the Susquehanna Society.o Create and manage stewardship plans for individual donors of $100,000+; the Lifetime Giving Society.o Create and manage special stewardship plans for current major and planned giving donor campaigns including comprehensive campaigns.o Collaborate with the Advancement Event Coordinator to plan and organize annual and special events for donor recognition including scholarship luncheons, naming dedications and connections with student scholarship recipients.o Collaborate with deans, faculty, staff and major gift and gift planning staff to plan and execute personalized stewardship.
  • Working with divisional and other colleagues at the university to advance stewardship and donor relations goals. Examples:o Collaborate in the development and implementation of a stewardship program for leadership SUF (Susquehanna's annual fund) donors.o Collaborate with staff to produce personalized endowed fund reports.o Collaborate with Advancement, University Communications and IT staff to produce annual giving report.
  • Create and implement stewardship for the SU faculty and staff emeriti group.
  • Hire and supervise student workers.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the Advancement office by performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    Required Qualifications:
    Knowledge, Skills, AbilitiesAbility to strategically plan, implement and manage projects- short term and long term; Ability to listen and respond appropriately to others; Ability to impact and influence others to further the institution’s strategic objectives; Ability to interpret and articulate the mission of Susquehanna University and interact with stakeholders from a wide range of professional and cultural backgrounds; Ability to represent the University with tact and diplomacy and maintain confidentiality along with discretion; Excellent customer service skills, Excellent organizational skills; Ability to lead and direct the efforts of others. Ability to present information to individuals or groups; Ability to deliver presentations suited to the characteristics and needs of the audience; Ability to convey information clearly and concisely to groups or individuals either verbally or in writing to ensure that they understand the information and the message. Ability to understand and communicate basic philanthropy strategies and initiatives of the University. EducationBachelor’s degree required. ExperienceFive years’ experience in advancement, marketing, public relations or a related field required. Additional RequirementsOccasional evening and weekend work required, as well as overnight travel. This position requires a valid driver’s license, and the ability to drive and qualify under the university’s insurance carrier when driving a university and/or leased vehicle.
    Physical Demand Position requires the ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time. Position requires the ability to move about the campus. Position requires the ability to talk and to hear instruction. Position requires occasional manual dexterity and the ability to use fingers, hands, and arms to feel, handle, and reach. Position requires occasional stooping, crouching, and bending. Position requires the ability to occasionally lift to 10 pounds. Working conditions are primarily indoor.
