Position Overview:
A member of the Roux Institute's team and the Office of the Chancellor Employee Experience & Organizational Success (OTC HR) team, the HR Business Partner will be located at the Roux Institute in Portland, Maine and will serve as the primary Human Resources lead for the Roux Institute, providing full-cycle human resources support. He/she acts as the initial point of contact for all HR related issues in order to help maintain a high touch, high performing culture. He /she is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level, working closely with the unit leadership and partnering with the divisional and central human resources teams to promote a happy, healthy, and engaged workplace community.

The HR Business Partner is a key member of the management team and the divisional HR team organizing and mobilizing staff and resources to support the delivery of a high-quality experience for all employees. The HR Business Partner serves as a liaison, partnering with the hiring manager and the Talent Acquisition team to coordinate, conduct, and advise on recruitment and hiring best practices and procedures, at each stage of the recruitment lifecycle. He/she coaches managers through employee relations concerns, working in partnership with OTC HR, central HRM, and Office of General Counsel, to effectively assess, diagnose, and resolve employee relations issues providing accurate, timely, and effective documentation when required. The HR Business Partner is also responsible for overseeing the performance development framework, ensuring effective performance development evaluations and conversations are taking place, and providing guidance and support during the review process. The HR Business Partner will perform exit interviews, identifying trends and recommending corrective actions when appropriate. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: talent acquisition/recruitment, employment processing, training and development, records management, onboarding, policy implementation, performance management, employee relations and engagement.

The HR Business Partner is important in executing the division's people initiatives, providing exceptional internal customer support to managers and staff, driving HR functional excellence, and process improvements. They guide and coach managers in effective HR and management strategies and practices that will positively impact the employee experience and aligns with the mission and vision of the university. The HR Business Partner fosters a culture that enables staff to do meaningful and impactful work.

Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate will support Roux employees, provide high-touch employee service, and will partner with Roux leadership and OTC HR to build and strengthen high-performing teams. The HR Business Partner is team-oriented with strong collaboration, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills and has demonstrated the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment. Working closely with Roux leadership and partnering with OTC HR and central HRM, he/she will support initiatives and activities that foster and promote a happy, healthy, and engaged workplace community.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree preferred or significant direct experience.
  • Higher education experience preferred.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of progressive human resources experience, including employee relations experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to analyze and develop solutions to complex issues;
  • High level of discretion, confidentiality and professionalism required.
  • Ability to prioritize competing tasks
  • Proven ability to work independently and make sound judgments on a day-to-day basis
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn HRIS and talent management systems (Workday, Banner HR, PageUp)
  • Proven knowledge and application of federal and state employment law and best practices.
  • Excellent relationship management and internal consulting abilities
  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, and policies
  • Ability to acquire a thorough understanding of the organization's hierarchy, jobs, qualifications, compensation practices, and the administrative practices related to those factors.
