Assistant/Associate/Full Teaching Professor

About Northeastern:
Founded in 1898, Northeastern is a global research university and the recognized leader in experience-driven lifelong learning. Our world-renowned experiential approach empowers our students, faculty, alumni, and partners to create an impact far beyond the confines of discipline, degree, and campus.

Our locations—in Boston; Charlotte, North Carolina; London; Portland, Maine; San Francisco; Seattle; Silicon Valley; Toronto; Vancouver; and the Massachusetts communities of Burlington and Nahant—are nodes in our growing global university system. Through this network, we expand opportunities for flexible, student-centered learning and collaborative, solutions-focused research.

Northeastern's comprehensive array of undergraduate and graduate programs— in a variety of on-campus and online formats—lead to degrees through the doctorate in nine colleges and schools. Among these, we offer more than 195 multi-discipline majors and degrees designed to prepare students for purposeful lives and careers.

About the Opportunity:

This is a one- to five-year benefits-eligible position to teach legal research, writing, and professional skills in the first year Legal Skills in Social Context Program (LSSC). LSSC, the only program of its kind in the country, is the cornerstone of the first-year curriculum at Northeastern. Designed to enhance law students' skills development through social justice lawyering, the course is comprised of two parts: a traditional legal research and writing component and a social justice research project. The benefits of the program for students are numerous: students learn and develop a wide array of essential lawyering skills and have an opportunity to immediately apply their skills and put them to use in support of people in need.

Responsibilities:
LSSC faculty are responsible for teaching two sections of the course (a total of 30-34 students), including supervising each section's work on a year-long social justice project with a non-profit organization. Depending on programmatic needs, LSSC faculty teach in both the day program or in the school's Flex JD program, which is a part-time, partially virtual and partially in-person program.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must hold a J.D. from an accredited institution by the appointment start date. Candidates must have expertise in teaching legal research, writing, and lawyering skills as well as a demonstrated commitment to using law as a means for advancing social justice.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated success in a legal practice setting preferred. Expertise using experiential teaching techniques as well as teaching online is also preferred.

Salary Grade:

FAC

Additional Information:
Applicants should submit a formal letter of interest, along with a curriculum vitae, and the names and addresses of three references. Applications will be reviewed upon receipt and the search will continue until the position is filled.
