Post-Doctoral Research Associate

About Northeastern:
Founded in 1898, Northeastern is a global research university and the recognized leader in experience-driven lifelong learning. Our world-renowned experiential approach empowers our students, faculty, alumni, and partners to create impact far beyond the confines of discipline, degree, and campus.

Our locations—in Boston; Charlotte, North Carolina; London; Portland, Maine; San Francisco; Seattle; Silicon Valley; Toronto; Vancouver; and the Massachusetts communities of Burlington and Nahant—are nodes in our growing global university system. Through this network, we expand opportunities for flexible, student-centered learning and collaborative, solutions-focused research.

Northeastern's comprehensive array of undergraduate and graduate programs— in a variety of on-campus and online formats—lead to degrees through the doctorate in nine colleges and schools. Among these, we offer more than 195 multi-discipline majors and degrees designed to prepare students for purposeful lives and careers.

About the Opportunity:
The Center for Design (CfD) at the College of Arts, Media and Design (CAMD) is seeking for one Post-Doctoral Research Associate (Post-Doc) to develop its research agenda. The mission of the CfD is to foster CAMD's existing and new interdisciplinary research initiatives by embracing a metadesign approach and by integrating design knowledge and research practices through conferences, colloquia, workshops, exhibitions and the development of novel research protocols, tools and methods.

Responsibilities:
The position involves the activation of high-level research initiatives in connection with the Center for Design's research areas, focusing on the development of research services and platforms that enable interdisciplinary research initiatives and facilitate the understanding and the application of design competences across all industries - as in the Design for Emergency research project.

A strong connection with other departments, colleges and centers across NU ( e.g., Global Resilience Institute, Institute for Experiential AI, Institute for Experiential Robotics, Roux Institute etc.) and with organizations, companies and agencies outside is expected, in order to foster both interdisciplinary and applied design research. The candidate is also encouraged to design and activate workshops and other intensive design-based activities to position design as a key asset in companies, no profit and governmental organizations.

Additional responsibilities include grant proposal preparation and support in the management of the Center, including leading workshops and other on-site and on-line activities and supervision of graduate and undergraduate students.

The work will be performed under the guidance of Prof. Paolo Ciuccarelli, Professor of Design and director of the Center for Design, and in collaboration with the current core faculty members of the Center.

Qualifications:
We seek candidates who have a PhD or a terminal degree in Design or related areas. A successful candidate will have an interdisciplinary background and an interest in design as a cultural and social agent and as a driver for interdisciplinary research.

Although we will consider a wide range of candidates, we welcome candidates with experience in the development of novel design methods, tools and platforms and with competences in the management of design organizations and research initiatives.

Salary Grade:
10
