About the Opportunity:
The mission of the WeCare Program is to support Northeastern University students who experience difficulty maintaining academic progress due to personal challenges or external obstacles. By responding to student requests for assistance and proactively reaching out to students of concern, WeCare is a resource for students, their families, and NU faculty and staff. WeCare provides policy information; customized referrals and guidance that helps students navigate and overcome difficult circumstances.

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director for Student Success, the Associate Director of Student Support assists with the efficient and effective operation of the WeCare Program. The position requires leadership, initiative, innovation, problem-solving skills and the ability to make independent judgments related to individual student needs and university policies and procedures. A demonstrated ability to handle multiple responsibilities concurrently, an ability to work independently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment; and experience working with students across all programs, age levels and areas of difficulty is required in the position.
This position carries significant responsibility because of the time sensitive information that must be accurately conveyed to all customers. This is a highly visible position requiring constant customer contact via telephone, e-mail and in-person visitors, and the ability to provide assistance to the point of problem resolution. This person will provide the necessary assistance related to student services concerns so that the need to refer the client to another staff person/department will be minimized.

Additionally, this position requires significant interaction and collaboration with constituents such as the Registrar, Housing and Residential Life, Facilities, Student Financial Services, Disability Resource Center, University Health and Counseling Service, The Office of Equity and Compliance, Northeastern University Police Department, and Academic Advising.

Qualifications:
Master's degree required, preferably in counseling, student development or higher education (or equivalent experience advising in a college/university.) A minimum of five to seven years of work in higher education. Must enjoy working with students and helping guide them through their challenges to graduation.
The ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and with confidence, both orally and in writing is paramount to this position. Excellent interpersonal, organizational and computer skills. Ability to work in a team environment is required. Must work well and form productive alliances with a diversity of individuals at all levels of the organization. Must be able to balance conflicting priorities and remain calm under pressure. Crisis intervention skills, creative problem solving required.
Computer literacy requirements include strong working knowledge of Microsoft Windows environment including MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
Individual must have demonstrated advising ability utilizing developmental understanding to create a student-centered environment. Must be able to empathize with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Demonstrated presentation skills are required. Coordinate college wide processes that require understanding of policies and procedures across all university offices. Must possess ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, parents and university-wide administrators. Engaging people to move to consensus.
Familiarity with a university's role in an urban setting, the ability to articulate the shared responsibilities and opportunities available in our surrounding community.
Ability to see ‘patterns' in issues of concern to students, suggest improvements and creative solutions
Experience handling confidential and sensitive information and situations with diplomacy exercising excellent judgment. Superior critical thinking and organization skills with the ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
Candidate will be required to work some evening and weekend hours as needed.
