About the Opportunity:
The Digital Marketing Manager, Email is responsible for the strategic planning and execution of comprehensive engagement and conversion focused email marketing strategies across Northeastern's portfolio of professional programs. In partnership with digital marketing leadership, he/she/they will provide the strategic vision for how email is leveraged across a large and diverse set of audiences, programs, and customer segments across the University. He/She/They will be responsible for developing, implementing, tracking, and optimizing engagement strategies while ensuring a coordinated plan across all touchpoints. They will test and execute strategies to increase customer conversion across the customer funnel leveraging customer segmentation, scoring, testing, and personalization.

The role is highly collaborative in which the Manager will partner with the Customer Experience, Analytics, Product/Regional Marketing, and Admissions teams to help translate audience, content, technology, sales, and measurement inputs to orchestrate a cohesive, scalable solution for email marketing across the customer lifecycle. A successful candidate will be highly skilled in demand generation and email marketing strategy, but also possess the technical skills needed to translate strategy into executable campaigns in our marketing automation systems. They will leverage their experience working with marketing automation tools (preferably Marketo) to directly partner with marketing technology team members to translate business requirements into email marketing programs that meet stated KPIs. Together, they will create meaningful database segmentation and identify process improvements and enhancements to systems to maximize effectiveness of the email channel comprehensively.

The Manager is highly analytical and leverages data to make decisions, optimize campaigns, and inform future opportunities for testing and growth. They will work with Analytics team members to build a suite of reporting alongside a robust A/B testing framework that will drive effectiveness for the email strategy over time. In addition, he/she will be responsible for analyzing campaign metrics to proactively identify new areas of optimization and testing for the marketing and coaching organizations.

He/She will creatively work to develop campaigns that are engaging, relevant, and highly personalized to help prospective students along their journey to enrolling in Northeastern's degree programs. To achieve this, he/she will partner closely with internal creative and product marketing teams who support lead generation initiatives. This work includes managing the creation of email marketing templates and working with partner teams who develop content strategies to support email campaigns as necessary.

  • 5-7 years of marketing campaign strategy oversight and management, with at least 3 years in a strategy role focused on email marketing and customer engagement strategy
  • Direct oversight on building email marketing strategies within complex product and target audience segments
  • Experience working within a marketing automation systems to build and execute email marketing campaigns
  • Experience building segmentation and personalization frameworks with a complex product and/or target audience
  • Comprehensive knowledge of email measurement and testing - developing and analyzing reports to drive decision making across an organization
  • Strategic mindset paired with strong results orientation to achieve key business objectives
  • Ability to thrive in high paced, complex environments and to operate independently and efficiently manage multiple tasks, priorities and projects
  • Experience managing vendors and consultants
  • Strong collaboration skills, with internal and external stakeholders
  • Bachelor's degree required
