Scope of Job:
We seek applicants who are dedicated to serving The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's diverse student body as an Assistant Professor of Political Science in Constitutional Law beginning in the 2022-2023 academic year. The department is interested in applicants with a critical research agenda. The department is particularly interested in applicants whose research focuses on any of the following: voting rights, race, labor, sex and gender, immigration/citizenship, business-government relations, or American political development. The successful candidate must be able to teach courses on Civil Rights & Civil Liberties, Federalism and Judicial Process, as well as a required course in U.S. Federal Government & Politics. The department maintains a highly flexible teaching schedule to encourage faculty research and faculty regularly receive teaching support from graduate assistants, undergraduate research interns, and online instructional coaches.



Minimum Qualifications:
1) Ph.D. in Political Science, Government, Politics, Law & Society, or related field from an accredited institution of higher education (must have 18 hours of graduate course work in Political Science). ABDs will be considered, but a conferred doctorate by September 1, 2022, is required for appointment.
2) Demonstrable potential for strong research and publication record.
3) Demonstrable potential for teaching excellence.

Preferred Qualification:
1) Graduate course work in Constitutional Law/Public Law or experience teaching courses in Constitutional Law/Public Law and Judicial Process.2) Experience teaching online and/or willingness to occasionally teach online.

Additional Information:
UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
