Scope of Job:
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is seeking applicants for the position of the Inaugural Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program director. This person will be responsible for the strategic development and implementation of the DNP program in its academic mission, and for monitoring and ensuring that program goals and outcomes are achieved. Applicants must demonstrate strong leadership experience in an academic setting, including serving on committees, the ability to provide innovative approaches to academic development, and exhibit commitment to teaching and mentorship. The UTRGV School of Nursing is also looking for a dynamic and collaborative leader who has shown an established track record for developing and/or evaluating high quality university-level DNP curriculum designed for the classroom, online, or hybrid platforms.

General responsibilities include:

  • Oversee the DNP program including curriculum design, implementation and evaluation; student assessment; clinical placements; faculty development and mentorship.
  • Partner with the Office of Provost, Office of Institutional Accreditation, Program Development and Analysis, and the Graduate College in program accreditation, licensure and regulatory standards; student admission, progression, retention, and graduation.
  • Facilitate inter-program communication, synergies, and efficiencies across program tracks including collaborating on IPE/IPC opportunities and student experiences.
  • Monitor trends in DNP education and practice and provide leadership for DNP track development and refinement.
  • Monitor and promote continuous quality improvement/internal standards of all DNP tracks.
  • Mentor DNP Faculty to assure the highest quality education for students.
  • Participate in classroom teaching and oversee Scholarly project committee assignments.
  • Provide leadership in development of DNP accreditation and regulatory reports.
  • Develop long- and short-term student admission and retention strategies.
  • Works with the administrative team in promoting state-wide and national recognition for the DNP program.
  • Communicate programmatic needs with the Dean of the School of Nursing and the Leadership team.
  • Attends and participates in Professional Organizations and Service to the School and University.
  • Promotes and participates in Research.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    DNP, APRN (NP, CNS, CNM, CRNA)

    Discipline Specific Required Qualifications:
    Texas RN & APRN license

    Preferred Qualification:
    Graduate nursing teaching experience, academic program administrative experience, IPC practice experience

    Additional Information:
    UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may
    require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is
    performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive
    and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code
    §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of
    Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least
    135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement
    Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week
    and at least 135 days in length.

    demonstrate proficiency in English as determined by a satisfactory paper-based
    test score of 500 (computer-based of 173 or internet-based of 61) on the Test of
    English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or a satisfactory test score of 6.0 on the
