Scope of Job:
We seek applicants who are dedicated to serving The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's diverse student body as an Assistant Professor of Political Science in Comparative Politics beginning in the 2022-2023 academic year. The department is particularly interested in applicants with a critically oriented research agenda in any of the following areas: Middle East/North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, or Russia (and other post-Soviet states). This position continues the department's effort to build an undergraduate and graduate program with courses anchored in the concepts and methods of political science, but that simultaneously cross disciplinary boundaries to incorporate topics, concepts, and methods utilized by other disciplines. The successful candidate will teach upper-division and graduate courses in their area of substantive specialization, including new courses to be designed by the successful candidate. The department maintains a highly flexible teaching schedule that can include online teaching and support from teaching assistants, undergraduate research interns, and online instructional coaches.



Minimum Qualifications:
1) Ph.D. in Political Science, Political Economy, Government, Politics, International Studies, Global Studies/Governance, or related field from an accredited institution of higher education (must have 18 hours of graduate course work in Political Science). ABDs will be considered, but a conferred doctorate by September 1, 2022 is required for appointment. 2) Demonstrate potential for strong research and publication record.3) Demonstrate potential for teaching excellence.

Additional Information:
UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
