Job Description

Duties will be performed under the supervision of the Director. The individual in this position will provide direct clinical care to the Virginia Tech student community at Schiffert Health Center (SHC). Additionally, the individual will participate in quality improvement activities and activities that connect Schiffert Health Center to campus life. Collaborate with other MDs, RNs, NPs, PAs, mental health professionals, dieticians, and other health care staff/departments in the care of student patients. The individual will need to be familiar with Women’s health and be cross trained to work in the Women’s Clinic at SHC. The provider will be expected to perform their roles in a nonjudgmental and nondiscriminatory manner in accordance with SHC policies. They will contribute to a supportive, healthy and safe work environment that promotes mutual respect. They will maintain electronic health records and maintain patient confidentiality.

Required Qualifications

Active RPNP or PA license in the Commonwealth of Virginia or able to obtain license to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Active certification in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Active DEA license or ability to apply for such license prior to or upon hire. Extensive knowledge of physical assessment, differential diagnosis, pathophysiology, pharmacology and management of general medical and gynecological problems. Experience in the evaluation and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries and office procedures including but not limited to, wound care, laceration repair, incision and drainage, skin biopsy, ingrown toenail removal and cryotherapy. Sensitivity to a diverse student community, and a demonstrated ability to provide culturally competent and sensitive medical services to a racially, ethnically and culturally diverse population. Ability to recognize emergency situations and take appropriate action. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Professional demeanor. Ability to work independently in a clinical practice and as a member of a multidisciplinary team. Ability to prioritize tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge/experience of disease, prevention and health promotion needs of late adolescents and adults in a college health setting. Experience in working with electronic health records. Experience in working with the LGBTQ+ population. Experience interacting with diverse populations or students of color. Demonstrated sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of students of differing academic, socioeconomic, gender, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds and sexual orientation.
