Job Description

To maintain and promote the health of the student body at Virginia Tech by utilizing the diagnostic, therapeutic and educational skills of a Certified Nurse Practitioner or a Physician Assistant. To interact closely with physician members of the SHC medical staff and practice under the supervision of a licensed physician.

Required Qualifications

Successful completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant training program. Must have current certification and licensed to practice as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Experience practicing as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner. Skill and ability to perform accurate and thorough history and physical examination. Skill and ability to order and correctly interpret diagnostic tests, to establish a diagnosis and to develop a treatment plan which may include the prescription of pharmacotherapeutic agents as well as other treatment modalities. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with others and to seek physician consultation when appropriate. Ability to recognize emergency medical situations and take appropriate action.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge/experience of medical and gynecologic disease, prevention and health promotion needs of late adolescents and adults in a college health setting. Experience in working with electronic health records. Experience in working with LGBTQ+ population. Experience interacting with diverse populations or students of color. Demonstrated sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of students of differing academic, socioeconomic, gender, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds and sexual orientation.
