Special Information

The Department of Educational Psychology is pleased to announce multiple openings for non-tenure track, academic year Assistant Clinical Professor, Clinical Psychology position based in Phoenix, Arizona. to teach core courses in Clinical Psychology. For Fall 2021, the program hopes to hire at least one faculty member with responsibilities related to teaching, scholarship, and service; with additional hires for Spring 2022, based on enrollment.

These positions are renewable, based on availability of funds, effective performance, and program needs.

Job Description

The EPS Department seeks candidates who possess innovative instructional methodology, expertise in research related to clinical practice, supervision, and diverse experiences and professional proficiencies. Each position is a 9-month academic year position.

Responsibilities:

1. Teach graduate clinical psychology classes (including practicum) for the new doctoral program in Clinical Psychology.
2. Teach majority in-person courses, with occasional blended and online courses
3. Assist in recruiting, retaining, and advising doctoral students in Clinical Psychology
4. Direct graduate student clinical research projects
5. Fulfill service responsibilities to the department, college, university, and the profession
6. Work collaboratively with behavioral health service agencies to coordinate practicum and internship experiences for clinical psychology students

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Earned Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, or in a closely-related area of Applied Psychology
  2. Prior college teaching experience
  3. Experience supervising practicum students, in therapeutic techniques and psychological assessment
  4. Experience in the field of Applied Psychology, with a background/experiences in health service agencies
  5. Licensed/certified or eligible for licensure/certification as a Psychologist in Arizona


Preferred Qualifications

  1. Three or more years of relevant graduate level teaching experience in the area of clinical psychology
  2. Two years of experience in supervising practicum and internships, therapeutic techniques and psychological assessment
  3. Ability/experience or strong interest in recruiting, advising, and mentoring graduate students
  4. Evidence of scholarly activity
  5. Ability/experience working with graduate students on research projects
  6. Evidence of strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with department chairs, program directors/coordinators, faculty, staff, students, and associated members of the professional community
  7. Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds, including rural and southwest populations
  8. Experience working in an educational program that emphasizes diverse student populations.
  9. Evidence of a strong psychologist identity, and an active involvement in related professional associations
  10. Experience in networking/collaborating and consulting with health service agencies


General Information

The Department of Educational Psychology is located within the College of Education,. The department currently offers a PhD in Combined Counseling/School Psychology (Flagstaff campus), Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) program in Clinical Psychology (Phoenix North Valley campus), EdS in School Psychology, Master's degrees in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Counseling-School Counseling, Counseling-Student Affairs, and Human Relations. The Department of Educational Psychology has many statewide locations that also offers many of these programs.

Northern Arizona University has a student population of 29,569, including approximately 21,000 on its main campus in Flagstaff and the remainder at more than 20 locations statewide and online.

Background Information

This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting.

The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.

This is a Faculty (FAC) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) or the Optional Retirement Program (ORP); sick leave accruals and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified family members. Faculty are hired on a contract basis, renewable according to terms of the Conditions of Faculty Service . Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). Employees will have 31 days from date of hire to enroll in benefits, and their benefits will then be effective the first day of the pay period following their completed enrollment.

If a new employee chooses the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) retirement option, participation in the ASRS Plan (and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it) will begin on the first of the pay period following 183 days of employment. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP; an alternative to the ASRS plan) will begin to participate on the first day of employment. The long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of the pay period following 90 days of employment.
