Job Summary:

The Athletics Department at Marist College invites applications for two full-time, eleven-month positions as Assistant Athletic Trainers. These positions will assist with the daily operations of the Marist College athletic Training Room, including, but not limited to: injury prevention, evaluation, management, and treatment of athletic injuries, short-term and long-term rehabilitation of athletic injuries, education and counseling of student-athletes, and athletic-related health care administration in consultation with and under the supervision of the Head athletic trainer, Team Physician(s) and other qualified medical personnel. The Assistant Athletic Trainers will provide daily medical coverage of practices and competitions, both home and away, including some evenings and weekends for Women’s Soccer, Men’s Lacrosse and secondary, Men’s & Women’s Swimming & Diving, and assisting with other student-athletes.
These positions will report to the Coordinator of Sports Medicine and Director of Athletics.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree from a CAAT-Accredited undergraduate program required. Must possess certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATABOC). Must possess, or be eligible for, Athletic Training Certification in the State of New York.

Essential Functions:

  • Prevention, Treatment, Rehabilitation of student-athletes; assess injuries or risk factors; assess student-athlete’s functional status, and determine the individual’s ability to return to his/her sport.
  • Immediate and Emergency care for team practices and competitions on campus and with travel.
  • Clinical Evaluation & Diagnosis: Examine student-athletes who have acute, subacute, chronic musculoskeletal disorders or medical conditions and provide appropriate diagnosis; oversee concussion (mild traumatic brain injury) protocol.
  • Consultation & Communication: Record evaluation findings and update clinical notes based on each student-athlete’s case daily; communicate health information (including participation status) with: players, coaches, physicians, etc.
  • Work with team physicians to provide continuum of care to student-athletes, coordinate and consult with outside physicians.


Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s Degree preferred.

Professional Development:

  • Maintain certification through the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA).
  • Complete Evidence Based Practice CEU’s .
  • Maintain New York State Licensure/Registration through the State of New York Education Office, Office of the Professions.
  • Maintain current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification, valid for two years.
