This key Counseling Center position provides case management and follow-up for students who are involved in psychiatric hospitalizations; helps students connect with intensive outpatient and rehabilitation services in Saratoga Springs and in their hometown areas; assists in connecting students with local outpatient mental health services, including advocating on their behalf with insurance companies on occasion; provides short-term counseling and consultation services; and, periodically assists with some front desk operations when the Office Coordinator is unavailable. The position will also include some provision of daytime crisis management services when other clinical staff are unavailable or there is a ga p in coverage due to clinician absence.

This permanent position is 3 days/week (M/W/F), 9 months/year and runs from mid-August through mid-May.

Education :

Master’s Degree in Social Work.

Experience :

Must have experience in positions whose primary responsibilities included the delivery of clinical mental health treatment and case management services to a individuals of traditional college-age. Experience with rapid assessment, risk management, and brief therapy are crucial. Must have the capacity to practice independently within one year of starting the position. LCSW preferred, as this connotes a level of independent practice licensure that is consistent with the requirements of the position.

Competencies:

  • This position requires solid clinical skills, including the ability to conduct rapid assessment, accurate diagnosis, treatment planning, and flexible service delivery in a short-term therapy model.
  • The clinician must be able to establish themselves as a person who is expert and trustworthy with students, parents, faculty, and staff members who often are experiencing elevated levels of stress and distress.
  • Knowledge of current standards of practice, professional ethics, NYS mental health law, and best practices in terms of treatment, risk assessment, and management of crisis situations are crucial.
  • This individual must be a highly collaborative and professional colleague, able to interact well with other staff members at the Counseling Center and in the larger Skidmore community on a daily basis.
  • They must also possess the ability to assertively advocate with outside entities (e.g., treatment facilities, insurance companies) in order to facilitate access to appropriate services for our students in a timely manner, while also preserving those connections for future collaboration.

Salary Range: $35,500 - $37,000 annual salary rate, commensurate with experience, for this 9 month position
