Job Summary

PEER Physics and the Learning Assistant Alliance at the University of Colorado Boulder are encouraging applications for a Community Engagement Facilitator with experience working with adult learners, teaching pedagogy courses at the post-secondary level, and engaging in regional and national communities. The Community Engagement Facilitator will work with both programs to organize and facilitate professional learning and establish a presence at the national level through multiple pathways.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Facilitate and Cultivate Communities
  • Work with the PEER Physics team plan and facilitate professional learning including custom PD with district partners, conference workshops, piloting teacher support, and PD associated with marketing efforts (e.g. virtual interactive workshops).
  • Plan and facilitate the annual Symposium, coordinate ongoing efforts stemming from the Symposium (e.g. working groups, Summer Institute strand, develop and manage the PEER2 vetting process, summer internships).
  • Design and distribute newsletter, analyze campaign data.
  • Work in collaboration with PEER Physics team to facilitate the compilation of video and interview data for use in professional learning.
  • Develop spaces for teachers to collaborate on social media.
  • Build and monitor Facebook groups for PEER Physics teachers.
  • Build and monitor Twitter presence and coordinate teacher participation on this platform.
  • Build Instagram posts and stories that highlight teacher communities.
  • Manage all PEER Physics website access requests (turning on and off access and managing permissions).
  • Work with the PEER Physics team to maintain up-to-date knowledge of direction of the project, product development, professional learning offerings, etc.
  • Work with the PEER Physics team to revise and edit PD materials, grants, proposals, etc.


Teach Energy & Interactions
  • Teach up to two sections of EDUC/PHYS 1580 per term.
  • Support the team of instructors in enacting similar pedagogical strategies, assessment practices, and scope and sequence.
  • Engage in data collection needed for research studies for the PEER Physics development team.


Develop National Presence and Influence
  • Participate in regional and national organizations that are of importance to the mission of PEER Physics.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with national organizations.
  • Attend and present at conferences (in coordination with the PEER Physics team, including determining content, giving practice talks, etc.).
  • Ensure PEER Physics maintains strong brand identity across all communication and materials within these organizations.
  • Ensure that all content is professional, compelling, accurate, audience-appropriate.
  • Work to form collaborative relationships with groups, such as POGIL, for business endeavors.
  • Investigate relevant grants and RFPs and collaborate with the PEER Physics team to write and submit proposals.
  • Track and maintain records of engagements, contacts, communications in a Customer Relationship Management system (CRM).
  • Maintain the professional competence, knowledge, and skills necessary to appropriately communicate the PEER Physics mission and interact with districts.


Learning Assistant Program Activities
  • Instruct up to two sections of EDUC 4610: Becoming an LA per term.
  • Manage communications including email, newsletters, social media.
  • Serve as a resource for faculty who use Learning Assistants in their courses and provide mentorship on various aspects of course reform and the role of LAs in courses.
  • Serve on planning and implementation team for the Returning LA community.
  • Maintain the professional competence, knowledge, and skills necessary to appropriately communicate the Learning Assistant Alliance mission with K-12 districts.


What You Should Know

  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for events.
  • Willingness to travel several times throughout the year.


What We Can Offer

The salary range for this position is $52,000 - $72,000.

What We Require

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in science or education.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in education or science (should complement master’s in establishing expertise in science education).
  • Two years of experience instructing adult learners in in-person and virtual environments.
  • Experience with product marketing, including through social media, newsletters, and other formats.
  • Professional experience working with collaborative team environments.
  • Experience implementing conferences and activities associated with professional organizations such as national societies and programs.
  • Enthusiasm for science education and school reform.

  • Excellent attention to detail, critical thinking, creativity, and communications skills.


What We Would Like You To Have

  • Master’s degree in School Administration, Curriculum and Instruction, or similar.
  • Professional experience with university-level administration.
  • Experience teaching high school science.
  • Experience teaching education courses at the undergraduate level.
  • Experience facilitating professional learning.
  • Experience developing professional learning communities.
  • Experience in leadership roles in national education/science organizations.
  • Experience working with MailChimp.
  • Experience working with Monday.com CRM.
  • Experience with social media platforms.
  • Experience writing and winning grants.
