This position is primarily responsible for directing and
maintaining large, complex, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and
enterprise database systems including new implementations,
enhancements, integrations, support and other special projects. The
Director will also provide supervision and management for the
university Storage Area Network (SAN) infrastructure as well as
backup and recovery systems. The Director works closely with other
units within the Office of Information Technology to ensure that
technical and architectural design aspects are optimal for
achieving sound performance, security, scalability,
maintainability, reusability and reliability as well as continuing
to assist in supporting some web technologies such as Ellucian Self
Service and Microsoft Sharepoint / Ellucian Portal. The Director
will oversee the administration and maintenance for the Solaris
Unix servers. The Director will support processes to ensure
tracking service level agreements, assessing security risks and
maintaining, testing and auditing existing systems. This individual

The individual manages a team of database and application
administrators that are responsible for the analysis, deployment,
debugging and testing of enterprise database and storage systems,
such as the Data Warehouse, the Business Intelligence, the Content
Management System (CMS) and the SharePoint Web Portal.
- Manages university enterprise database systems, Storage area
network (SAN) and backup infrastructure, and assists with support
for additional ERP-related systems, including performance
monitoring, patch and release management, and general system error
tracking and troubleshooting activities such as review logs for
errors, review helpdesk tickets, and contacting the vendor for
complex system errors. This applies to the supporting Oracle
Solaris Unix servers as well as ERP related Microsoft Windows
- Provides architectural oversight and administrative services
(including capacity management, architecting for required
availability and redundancy) to additional enterprise systems,
including Microsoft SharePoint, Ellucian Self Service, and other
peripheral systems. Reviews technology needs and creates project
plans, assigns tasks and verifies and reports on completion of
- Manages a team that coordinates operational readiness, testing
and production assessments. This includes: hiring, onboarding,
training, coaching and managing performance. Also, seek

Required Education and Experience

Preferred Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Human-Computer
Interaction, or related field, OR equivalent in education, training
and experience is required.
- At least 10 years of progressive experience in Database
Administration, MS Windows and Unix Administration, and enterprise
backup and recovery administration, working with cross-functional
teams, participating in project development, and leading system
implementation projects is required.
- Demonstrable knowledge of server and application
administration, architecture and security concepts, including
- Previous experience managing backup solutions and knowledge of
Storage Area Networks (SAN) is required.
- Microsoft Windows and Solaris administration experience is
- Microsoft SQL Server, Unidata RDBMS, Oracle, and practical
experience with system development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, the
demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team in
a collaborative environment, and a commitment to customer service
in a diverse population are necessary.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
- Prior experience with Ellucian ERP and related systems are a
- Experience in a higher education environment.
- Experience with High Capacity web systems/ High volume
transactions is a "good to have" in this role.
- This position will not include the luxury of having tunnel
vision for any one area; rather, this individual will need to
exhibit excellent judgment on how to prioritize between focusing on
existing versus new applications and between features,
architectural improvements, and operational excellence.
