Global Experience Office Overview:

The Global Experience Office (GEO) is a central office of global education at Northeastern University, committed to ensuring that every Northeastern student has an opportunity to engage in intellectually challenging and culturally enriching experiences throughout the world. To achieve this, GEO partners with Northeastern colleges and units to integrate meaningful global experiences into their curricula and to enhance their capacity through global mobility. Northeastern's signature programs, including Dialogues of Civilizations, Global Quest, The N.U.in Program, and Semester-In, are carefully designed to reflect the Northeastern University (NU) global mission, complement students' on-campus studies, deepen students' knowledge of the world and their chosen field of study, and help students develop intercultural and political sensitivity, utilize and strengthen foreign language skills, explore global career options, and grow as individuals. Through these programs, GEO facilitates global experiences for over 3,800 NU students and 200 additional foreign incoming students.

Position Overview:

Working with the Senior Director of GEO Operations, the Manager of Immigration, Policy, and Compliance will oversee the administration of day­-to­-day travel documentation operations, visa support and guidance, and GEO policies for a portfolio of Northeastern Global Experience programs, including Global Co-op, The N.U.in Program, Dialogue of Civilizations, Study Abroad, etc. The Manager is responsible for managing the workflow for Northeastern University student visa support including: intake, triage, research, dissemination, and follow up on visa support and guidance for programming, as well as creation of necessary supporting documentation. The Manager researches various visa issues as they arise and maintains a documented knowledge base of up-to-date regulations, paying special attention to countries with particularly challenging visa requirements.

Responsibilities:
The Manager serves as a resource and an escalation support for university mobility programming. The Manager trains and provides ongoing guidance to GEO, to ensure they are adequately prepared to support student and faculty global experiences on standard visa practices based on country and type of program, as well as identifies, troubleshoots, and resolves challenging visa issues for locations across the globe.

The Manager works closely with the Senior Director of Operations and the Office of General Counsel to update and maintain immigration and compliance policies for the GEO.

The Manager works closely with the co-op coordinators to vet the viability of new global co-op placements based on consular requirements that take into account factors such as location, job type, and duration. Strong research and customer service skills are a necessity, as well as problem solving and attention to detail.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required, Masters degree preferred, with at least four years of academic, administrative and/or paralegal experience

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Demonstrated excellent research skills required

  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service; strong customer service skills

  • High attention to detail

  • Ability to problem solve

  • Ability to work and make decisions independently when necessary, to exercise discretion and judgment in areas of responsibility

  • Experience and comfort with Microsoft Office applications - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

  • Ability to work in a highly dynamic environment and adjust to changing priorities quickly

  • Experience working with international immigration and visa regulations preferred

  • Experience working within the field of global education with specific engagement with immigration and university policies preferred
