About the Opportunity:
The Assistant Director, Space and Capital Planning works with the Director and broader Campus Planning & Real Estate team to predict and align university space and capital resources with demand; envisioning and defining options for potential projects that enable the institution to meet its goals and fulfil its academic plan.

Responsibilities:
As part their primary responsibility, the Assistant Director will be responsible for physical planning for research hires and directly supporting STEM and other academic units in their planning needs. They will be a key contributor to evolving our learning environments and workplaces, and supporting a global university. The Assistant Director self-performs, directs consultants or participates as part of a team; translating academic priorities into physical planning scenarios, and assuring program and planning goals are maintained from concept through design.

As an experienced planner, the Assistant Director will also apply a broader planning lens and use their skillsets to support key initiatives of the university. These may include forecasting space demand, develop scenarios for space allocation, or contributing to the University's Long Range Plan development. The ability to apply a flexible approach and provide effective space use alternatives is essential to providing the university the best outcomes for use of this valuable resource.

Qualifications:
o Bachelor's degree in Architecture, master's preferred. A minimum of eight years working for or with higher education institutions.
o Significant experience in designing and/or planning research labs (wet/dry/computational).
o Ability to incorporate relevant operational and cost data into planning scenarios, with a focus on providing context for cost control and planful investment in physical planning decisions.
o Ability to create compelling communication materials.
o Ability to work both collaboratively on teams and/or with a high level of independence, as the situation requires. Individual should be able to set priorities and meet deadlines.
o Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to work effectively with faculty, consultants, staff and clients at all levels to achieve outcomes.
o Must be skilled in use of design programs such as AutoCAD, Revit and using Excel to parse and analyze data.
o Experience with CAFM systems, database tools & report development is a plus.
