Job Summary

The Athletics Department at Auburn University is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Specialist, Student Support Services (Athletics). The individual in this role serves as Student-Athlete Support Services’ Academic Coordinator. Reporting to the Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Support Services ( SASS ), this individual coordinates the day-to-day functions regarding essential direct service components of SASS designed to allow the unit to meet its mission of accommodating the academic needs of student-athletes. Manages human resources and risk (adherence to hiring regulations and SASS policies), while implementing best practices and suggesting program improvements. Additionally, the individual compiles and evaluates data to ensure accurate and accessible records, monitors budget allocation, and forecasts staffing needs. The successful candidate will serve as part of a comprehensive team in Student-Athlete Support Services. SASS promotes, assists, and provides counsel to Auburn University student-athletes in the areas of academics and eligibility.

Essential Functions

This individual must possess and apply a broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures related to management of a large number of part-time employees. Should also possess knowledge of different pedagogical approaches, related fields, and areas of operation which affect, or are affected by, area of oversight. Additionally, the successful candidate must possess a strong customer service orientation and an ability to work with diverse populations, as well as, excellent communication skills both written and verbal with an ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships while training and mentoring others.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Oversees multiple services related to academic support designed to benefit the student-athlete. Recommends and implements programmatic policies and procedures for tutoring services and study table services. Assesses effectiveness of programs and services
  • Hires, trains, supervises, and assesses part time Content Tutors and Study Table Monitors. Ensures programs are properly staffed with appropriate academic subject experts.
  • Assigns Content Tutors to specific student-athletes and tracks details of pairings and sessions ensuring student-athletes have the opportunity to be academically successful and athletically eligible.
  • Compiles, maintains, and evaluates relevant data to ensure accurate and accessible records related to content area and/or programs.
  • Facilitates successful communication between Content Tutors, Academic Strategists, Academic Counselors, Learning Specialist, and student-athletes concerning programs and services.
  • Serves as Student-Athlete Support Services Human Resources contact. Responsible for initiating all part-time hiring packets and for verification of time in Kronos for part-time bi-weekly employees.
  • Complies with all applicable National Collegiate Athletic Association ( NCAA ), Southeastern Conference ( SEC ), and Auburn University policies, procedures, and regulations in the performance of job duties.
  • Maintains confidential records and historical data.
  • May perform other job-related duties as assigned.
