Director of the Intentional Readiness for Occupational Acquisition & Retention (iROAR) Center



A successful candidate will play an active role in FMU's existing academic success. The Director of the Intentional Readiness for Occupational Acquisition & Retention (iROAR) Center, shall have primary responsibility for providing a long-range vision for the office, offering supervision and professional development for students, and building collaborations with other divisions. This student-centric role will carry out the mission of the career services office. Provides career counseling and referrals to assist students with the career development process, including clarifying objectives and obtaining occupational information.

Essential Functions:

Responsibilities include being an active leader in coordinating with faculty, parents, and alumni to assist students in coordinating well-developed career planning skills and to apply them to a wide range of employment and post-graduate opportunities.
  • Build partnerships between the university and external communities (business, the public sector, and not-for-profit entities) emphasizing aggressive development and marketing to expand internship and full-time employment opportunities for all majors.
  • Establishes office policies and procedures, prepares regular reports, and collects and analyzes research data relevant to the career planning and placement of students and alumni.
  • Provide students and alumni individual assistance in defining career options, developing employment skills, and job-search strategies.
  • Develop, coordinate, and facilitate training and skill development workshops to include resume preparation, job-search strategies, and career information technology including the internet, interview skills, and experiential learning preparation.
  • In collaboration with University Advancement and Student Affairs, establishes and maintains effective and cooperative working relationships with students, alumni, faculty, employers, and the general public. Initiates contact with employers.
  • Coordinate resources in support of programming and independent student accessibility including internet, electronic media, employer directories, employment vacancy bulletins, etc.
  • Collect and report placement data for internship and full-time opportunities (using email, surveys, phone, etc.) Collaborate with other staff with oversight responsibility for data collection.
  • Provides career coaching, career planning assistance through appointments with individuals, online assistance, and regularly scheduled workshops with groups.
  • Assists students with career development and planning process, including obtaining information on companies, current opportunities for employment and hiring practices, and making the transition from school to career.
  • Plans and implements job fairs and on-campus recruiting events.
  • Distributes information on internships, summer jobs, and local part-time jobs.
  • Provides and updates computer software and library resources.
  • Counsel students about graduate school choices, admission, and general financial aid.
  • Maintains the organization, updating, and distribution of credential files. Educates students on credential file procedures.
  • Maintains online recruitment system and works closely with webmaster to maintain/update career services website.
  • Promotes office to students, alumni, and employers through a variety of marketing efforts.
  • Assists in the development of a budget, reconcile expenditures and maintains fiscal responsibility.
  • Supervises career development staff including Career Readiness Coordinators
  • Supervises student employees (i.e., Intern, Federal Work-Study, Student Assistant).
  • The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that logically relate to the position.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to handle information of sensitive and confidential nature in the utmost professional manner. Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, initiative, resourcefulness, and personal accountability.
  • Maintain the privacy and confidentiality of information, protect the assets of the institution, act ethically and with integrity, and adhere to FMU’s Code of Conduct and policies and procedures.
  • Effective analytical and decision-making skills. Excellent communication (oral and written), organizational, and time management skills. Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse constituents.
  • Attention to detail and adaptability to a changing environment is extremely important as well as dependability.
  • Manage, prioritize, and accomplish multiple tasks/projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling objects of average weight up to fifty (50) pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
Qualifications:
  • The position requires a master’s degree in human resources, training, and development experiences directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in Career Development in higher education or similar industry.
  • Experience working in corporate environments is desired.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, as well as knowledge and understanding of the organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures.
  • Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours.
  • Pre-Employment screening is required: criminal background check and drug testing.
