Bard High School Early College Queens -- a partnership of Bard College and the New York City Department of Education -- invites applications for a Social Work Position. The academic program at Bard emphasizes small class size and a commitment to teaching a diverse student body in a liberal-arts environment. This Social Worker will be hired by the NYC DOE and the salary will be determined by the collective bargaining agreement with the city based on years of experience and educational level.

Responsibilities
  • Provide targeted supports to individuals and selective services to identified groups;
  • Deliver counseling with an emphasis on supporting mental health;
  • Conduct workshops for parents;
  • Make needed referrals for health and professional services and access to public benefits;
  • Provide workshops and support to school staff to educate them on the issues facing students with mental health matters and the social-emotional needs;
  • Communicate and coordinate with other adults who may be supporting these students;
  • Provide teacher outreach, like Counseling Screen emails gathering information about students (also keeping track of which teachers responded and reaching out a second time to those who have not) and for information from teachers for our special education students;
  • Attend weekly counseling department and attendance meetings;
  • Learn about community resources and share information with community (all staff and families) ; and
  • Perform other related work.
Requirements
  • School Social Work certificate with N.Y.S
  • Personal Qualities: We are seeking someone who recognizes and appreciates the challenges of serving such a diverse student body; is a strong communicator (in both speech & writing); is organized, takes initiative and plans ahead; is patient and can support students and staff through difficult situations; and is excited about working collaboratively with our student support and leadership team.
