The Faculty of Education at Leuphana University of Lüneburg invites applications for the following junior professorship:

APPLIED LINGUISTICS (W1)

For this position, we are seeking a committed early stage researcher who shows promise of excellence in teaching and research as well as unique ideas to impact their field and society. Women are especially invited to apply.

Research and teaching at the Institute for German Language and Literature and its Didactics at the Faculty of Education deal with the interaction of linguistic and cognitive processes in the communicative actions as well as with functions of linguistic means especially in communication in educational institutions. Here, the professorship makes a significant contribution to raising the profile of university education on the knowledge and functions of language structures in key competencies such as presentation and moderation skills, which future primary and secondary school teachers must be able to understand, use and teach. The holder puts in an interdisciplinary perspective the results of theoretical and empirical research on speech perception, speech reflection and language use into application-related contexts. It reflects on the revolutionary consequences of digitalization and considers the linguistic and methodological challenges that result from it in the field of applied language and communication research. The holder of the professorship is open to new methods with which he makes the potential of language and education visible, together with other players in the field.

We expect to represent one of the following sets of topics, or combinations thereof, in an all-inclusive manner in research and teaching:

- Linguistic structural analysis, grammar construction and language reflection

- Oral and multilingual communication

- Multimodal communication (linking written and spoken language, typography and prosody, gestures and mimic)

In doing so, you will also tie in with existing research activities of the Institute for German Language and Literature and its Didactics and the Faculty of Education, for example, in the areas of "Development of Literal Competencies", especially in the fields of text production and orthography; language register overlapping multimodal also multilingual research or "Empirical Research on Language and Education (ERLE)" and domain-specific professionalization research (ZZL) and use a methodologically broad, empirical quantitative and/or qualitative spectrum. You will use a methodologically broad, empirical quantitative and/or qualitative spectrum in your research. With nationally and internationally oriented research, you will advance the professional discourse at the Institute and also in cross-institutional structures.

Formal requirements according to § 30 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (NHG) are a university degree in a field relevant to the open position and in the context of reading and writing acquisition and literacy education accros the curriculum; your aptitude for teaching; and your ability to engage in independent academic research as demonstrated by the outstanding quality of your dissertation.
