A.T. Still University's Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM) is seeking an Assistant Dean for Clinical Affairs on the Kirksville, Missouri, campus. The position reports to the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs. The assistant dean is responsible for assisting the associate dean in clinical rotation site oversight, including site visits and site development; maintaining and developing ongoing relationships with current sites, including identifying needs, problem solving issues, and providing support; participating in and developing faculty and preceptor development programs for clinical sites; assisting in developing new initiatives related to the clerkship experience; and assisting in the management/direction of Clinical Affairs (CA) department staff.
Major Job Duties
- Assist in new clinical site development and maintenance of existing sites
- Develop and monitor system for identifying needs for sites {review admissions data, geographic needs, GME trends}
- Assist in the development of programs for preceptors and clinical regional faculty development
- Participate in clinical site visits to monitor needs for accreditation purposes
- Develop collaborative relationships with other COMs to partner on clinical site development where possible
- Engage regions in faculty development initiatives designed to enhance the teaching capabilities of regions
- Meet with and review the performance of CA department staff in the management/direction of CA department staff
- Identify, track, and coordinate potential new clinical site development
- Develop data-based reports designed to provide relevant information to regions and the College about various educational trends
- Help to develop budgets for regions based on needs assessments
- Review and revise clerkship guidelines as needed
- Work with the associate dean of GME to coordinate efforts for UME/GME continuum
- Oversee CA department staff in the delivery of content and completion of responsibilities
- DO/DHA/PhD degree
- Knowledge of medical education, AOA Core Competencies, faculty development, graduate medical education, healthcare/hospital systems
- An understanding of healthcare systems operations
- An understanding of healthcare site, recruitment, and retention of providers
- Adaptable
- Exemplary professional behavior
- Technical proficiency is a plus
- Ability to manage responsibilities/conversations remotely is a plus
- Ability/flexibility to travel to rotation sites (approx 40% of the job)
